Hey guys,

First of all, I'm in 2 bands, both metal but I have no amp. The place where we practice (same place for both bands) has one, so I figured I wouldn't need one. Until now.

One of the bands got a gig for the start of March and we're playing at a place that has its own equipment. I decided to start saving for this half stack I had my eyes on (Hartke LH500 & Ashdown MAG410t).

Now, I stroll into this pawn shop, and see a full Behringer stack for £300. I think the head was Behringer BX300T, and the cabs were Behringer BA 210 & 115. I can buy these all separatly, which is good incase I don't want the head or cabs.

Here's the question: Should I get the Behringer stack (or half -stack) and then buy the Hartke/Ashdown half stack, or just save up for the Hartke/Ashdown stack? (Price: £500- 598 euros)

If you buy the Behringer, you'll always be thinking of the sound you might have gotten from the Hartke/Ashdown...

Plus, there's no kudos in turning up for a gig with a Behringer (we use Behringer mixers and amps, so I have nothing against them - but I wouldn't walk around saying "Hey guys, guess what? I brought a Behringer"...)

See if you can get a deal on the Hartke/Ashdown, and if you can get short credit on it (say, three months) to help you get a hold of it now..

Behringer has a well deserved reputation for putting out..... not reliable...... products at a cheap price point. i've never used any of their amps or cabs, just a few pedals and recording stuff. but i've talked to people that have bought their amps or cabs, and every single person has a story about blowing a speaker without pushing it very hard.

and friends that have worked at Guitar Center said that they come back broken ALL the time.

i'd wait for the Hartke & Ashdown. they are companies with much better reputations for quality gear. look into Aguilar stuff too. great speakers at a great priced used out here in the States. i don't know how it is out there though.

While it's priced right, I've never cared for Behringer studio equipment. For low-priced stuff I think Mackie is far better for studio gear.
So I'd be hesitant about their amps and cabs. Not that I have an experience with them...

Look for the Hartke and Ashdown used, should be able to get them for not much more than that Behringer setup.

Another option is peavey, great gear, heavy as hell, tone may or may not be to your liking, but reliable! Cheap as chips used aswell (saw a 450 watt Peavey Nitrobass amp with 2x10 and 1x15 go for under £200 last year).

Behringer makes decent small mixers, power amps and a rackmount signal processor or two. I own all of the above and have had no issues whatsoever. However, their instrument amps have a well-deserved craptacular reputation. I agree w/the others. Buy the better amp/cab now. As mentioned, see if you can get a "Play now, pay as you go" type deal.
