Decisions on Daphne... Blue that is.

Hello all,

I am in a constant state of modding my MIM Fender Deluxe jazz. Currently it is without a neck as it was sacrificed to my frankenbass project.

I am curious if someone can do some photoshopping for me on colors and necks for my jazz.
I know I want to get a maple black blocked and bound neck for it, doesnt have to be a Fender. (Though I wish Rondo would finally get them in for cheap!)
As far as colors, I am deciding between leaving it black or repainting it Daphne Blue. If it changes to blue, a pickguard change is probably needed as well.
Here is the thoughts going through my head on the paint job:
-The black currently on the jazz is of course a poly finish, which prohibits wear. I play it alot, and I want it to show, so if I decide to keep it black, I will probably strip the poly and refinish in nitro black and white primer (Maybe blue between white and black layers. )
-If I want to change it to Daphne Blue I will probably just prime with white nitro and then spray the blue over the top of everything already there.

So along with the request for a photoshop job, I ask your opinion on whether to keep it Black and repaint as Daphne Blue.

I am guessing the Daphne Blue would look sort of like this with the brown tort. Still need a mock up with a maple black blocked and bound neck though.

Why does she always need to show up when we talk about Daphne Blue? Oh well, at least she is cute.

If that mustang is what it will look like I vote blue. Not a real fan of maple necks, but if you do, go for it!

Thank you for positive remarks. I think I will plan on using a heat gun to strip the poly and then do white, black, white, daphne blue on top. I was worried about the brown tort, but it actually looks good.

I wouldnt do a lot of stripping. The poly is a good basecoat. Just sand the crap out of it and get it flat and spray your primer over that.

So I have been following this thread for awhile now and it finally has pictures, which basically show what my idea looks like. Just needs a maple black blocked and bound neck.

I think it looks pretty good. Maybe some cream colored pickup covers would look nice.

FWIW - the color in that picture looks much more like Sonic Blue. I read that the original poster said a single coat of Daphne Blue over white - maybe that's why it looks off - but Daphne Blue is a brighter, more saturated color. Have a look here:

I see what you are talking about. But it is somewhat close. Just need to get a heat gun and start stripping the poly. Also want to upgrade with ferrules to make it string thru body.

Here is the current status of the project.
Looking for:
SX Maple black blocked and bound jazz neck
Brass nut
Hipshot Detuner
Ferrules for string through body

I am planning on drilling the holes soon. Have to do that before I can wire the pickups and controls back together. Fender didn't make it easy to take these things apart.

I enjoy the Daphne Blue with Tort pickguard. These pictures don't show how beautiful the blue is.

Here's my Daphne...not a black block bound neck( I can't look at a maple black block neck for some reason - lots of forumites seem to love that Geddy look, but it makes me uneasy - I must be weird:), but plenty of black guard and lots of ambered maple...
