Yes exactly.
The DVD/CD shop is in the UK but they are very easy to order from. I've got a few early live EJ DVDs featuring Dee/Nigel from them. Also got this TV special from the "GYBR" days. I saw it as a teenager but never forgot it.

Probably my favorite Dee Murray moment.
It's easy to pick out but I wish there was an isolated track of it somewhere
only because in the chorus I'm wondering what he's doing as it's doubling up piano here n there
but voiced in between the root & popping up & down octaves all over the place & I think hitting chords once in a while.

The US mix (done at Trident Studios in London) is the better one I believe rather than the UK mix done at DJM studios. Or have I got that the wrong way round?!

Bass Player magazine had a transcription of "Take Me To The Pilot" from "11#27-70" in January 2016. It reports he used an EB-3. That explains a lot of the different sound the bass has on that album, especially the "fartiness" that comes through.
I saw Elton touring behind the recently released 'GYBR' in Houston in the mid 70's. This was after he'd added the terrific Davey Johnstone, so it was a quartet with Elton, Davey, Dee, and Nigel. They were in great form, closed the show with a 90mph fastball 'Saturday Night's Alright' and the building was literally shaking.
A shame that Dee did not survive Elton's road back to sobriety, or he'd still be there along with Davey and Nigel, whom he re-hired after he came back to his senses. He was a huge influence on me, and a blueprint for a piano/bass/drums trio in a non-jazz format. Sorely missed.

Speaking of his gear as this thread does, somewhere I read that he played a G&L L-1000 for the later years of his career. To me that might explain "a P-bass that sounded like a Jazz"

He was indeed one of the original G&L endorsers. We were a G&L dealer from their start, the first bass promo sheets we got included one showing the two basses including the opton fofor an active L-1000 that was never produced, and one with Dee playing an L-1000.
