I got mine brand new from the big MF (Musician's Friend) for like $150 and sold it a couple years later at a slight loss.

Deep Impact rant

This scheme is happening again right now with the EHX Micro Synth. Prices for the big old box keep increasing and border the price of the new XO sized reissue.
Akai doesn't seem to plan a reissue but it could happen. They were discontinuing their whole line of pedals but eventually kept the Headrush because it sells so well.
I just wonder what happens if it craps the bed. Now you have an 800.00 dollar paper weight. That's what keeps me from buying pedals like this that are out of production..well that and I won't pay that much for a pedal
This sort of thing is just what happens when human psychology intersects with scarcity of goods. Bizarre, but many examples throughout history are known.
What is stranger, to me, is when a manufacturer stops producing what is a popular (or at least NOT a poor seller) and unique item, and doesn't upgrade it or replace it with another product that fills that niche.
Examples: Bergantino NV 610 and NV 215, Hughes and Kettner BATT, Rane DC24 Dynamic Controller, Rane PE17 Parametric EQ, Yamaha PB-1 Bass Preamp, Fender Studio Bass Amp. (some of these are better examples than others, I realize)

I bought mine brand new for $129 when Musician's Friend seemingly found a bunch in a warehouse. Should have bought 20 of them. Sold it a few years later for $450. Crazy.
I concur, I know its a wonderful pedal
but I just cant justify the high price for gigging when other pedals can get you 90% of the way there. I want one so very badly as Im 100% committed to playing synth on the bass- even though I know its easier and cheaper to just use keys
but at that price point Id rather just get a real moog or laptop/vst/midi controller. My personal limit for a deep impact is $300
if I find one for that price Ill buy it in a heartbeat. Also I keep thinking (hoping) someone will come out with an absolutely killer synth pedal in the next few years and the price of these will drop from the artificially inflated prices, scarce yes- but mainly because people perceive it as the best synth pedal... Damn you chris wholmesetein

Um, no it does not. No where even in the remote ballpark.
Hell, if the BSY600 was half of the pedal the Deep Impact was, I would be impressed. And just for the record, I have owned an SYB3 (you know, the pedal it is a direct copy of) and I still own a Deep Impact...
The two couldn't be further from the same thing... Hell, a Phaser and Octave pedal have more in common.
There was one on the TB Classifieds a few days ago for $1250 which I found horrible.
$450 more than what ebay sellers usually sell them for and it's for fellow TB members.
Not saying you have to make things cheaper for TBers (I personally would) but come on, a ''$400-f-u-TBers'' hike?!

i bought+sold mine for $500, broke even and played it for 2-3 months.
if i knew it'd go up to $800 i would've held on longer..

How's that crack you've been puffin away at? Have you even tried both of these pedals? They are in NO WAY similar, except for perhaps preset 2 on the DI. I have both and there is no way in hell the BSY can cop all the DI tones.

I agree that the DI is capable of a whole hell of a lot more than the BSY/SYB. Although I have heard clips of the DI before that I could cop with the BSY to some degree of accuracy.
But I just wanted to point out that the BSY is a clone of the SYB-5, not the 3. This is a significant point to me, because I like the 5 more than the 3. The 3 has some modes I consider useless, and it's missing some of my favorite modes on the 5.
But anyways, yeah the Deep Impact pricing has just become ridonkulous at this point.
