Would it be a possible make the default listing of search results "Most Recent"

Especially when searching the classified section it makes more sense to have them listed by date rather than relevance.

Wouldn't you much rather see the more current listings rather than the ones that the search engine deems "most relevant"? An old post that has the search terms I have entered may have lost it's actual relevance due to the passing of time.

I guess I understand if my preference is in the minority.

Perhaps the listing choice could be made available in the drop down search menu rather than having to click into the "more options" page.

Thanks!

It's been pointed out that "most relevant" is pretty useless anyway. Try to do a search for Sadowsky on the basses forum...the megathread is buried in the "relevant" results but it right near the top on the "recent" results.

I think in general, when searching for more specific, relevant results are usually more desired. If you're doing a search for "sadowsky" or "fender", it's such a general term you're going to get all kinds of results - searching by date is certainly something you can do via advanced search, but again I think for most search queries, most relevant is desired...

We actually are using "recency weighted relevancy", meaning that for every 30 days old a post/thread is, it gets "demoted" in the search results. This gives more recent threads a boost in the results listing. We can tweak this, so that more recent threads get even more of a boost...

Agreed that in Classifieds, "most recent" is the most desired sort order. Will try to get that default in Classifieds drop-down search.

If it could just be easier to make that choice...having to click into the "more options" screen is a drag mainly because when you are reading in say the classified section, the drop down search at the top of the screen is defaulted to show results in that section...but when you advance to the "more options" screen, all of that is lost and you have to re-type your search string, then move down to the filter window to select the section.

Sometimes I use the advanced search window just because I want to use it to narrow the results, but it would be nice if the quick search drop-down menu on each forum could have a check box for "show results as most recent" even if only in the classifieds.

Thanks for reading and looking into this Paul!
