Delano PMVC FE/M2 Review!

Congrats man, now go play!!! :bassist:

Thanks! thats what I've been doing for the past two hours!!

How are you liking them so far? :)

Words cannot describe it...

I LOVE it! these babies have made my overall tone surpass any expectations I had!
It has even inadvertently solved some problems I had with my pedalboard :D

I was starting to through EQ pedals just to recoup some of the low end punch and tame the hissing.

No More.

I found a couple youtube clips of the JMVC 4 FE/M2 split-coil humbucker jazz set. The output sounds very high with great response in all frequencies. I can't think of anything to compare them to....they sound totally wild.

This is the exact model that are in my Carvin SB5000. They are indeed very hot, and very powerful.

If you use them with an onboard preamp (as I do), you will want to make sure to carefully adjust the gain, lest you inadvertently overdrive the input stage of your amp head, rackmount preamp, DI, interface or mixing board - and thereby create all kinds of nasty distortion in your signal chain.

Likewise, you will need to carefully adjust the string height of your instrument, as the magnets in the JMVC 4 FE/M2 are powerful enough so that the magnetic field they generate will actually interfere with string vibration - unless the strings are set high enough to minimize that problem. :hmm:

Did add a pre or are you still passive? How close is the output to a active?

The pre is still stock, but I do plan on adding something in the future (possibly an East) as I've never cared for how my tone rolls off (it's either fully on or off with very little 'middle of the road' variations. I had this issue before getting the pup).

The output definitely went up some from the stock pup, but it wasn't a monumental difference. A nice amount of punch and 'heft' was added to my notes. That said, it's still not completely on par with my StingRay ;)

How would you say the Delanos compare to the DiMarzio Will Power middle? I am trying to decide between the two for my Squier VM, and I can not decide. I like a lot of mids and treble with plenty of growl.

I honestly have not compared the two side by but I have played a P with a Will Power in it. Personally, I found that pup to be a little too aggressive, and it wasn't able to sound warm enough for my ears. It also had more of a grind to it than a growl. That said, the WP definitely is cheaper than the Delano. I'd probably pick one up used if I could and try that out first. You may end up liking it enough to not want to try the Delano, and then you'll have some extra money left over to put towards something else :bassist::p

BassMods feature Delanos alot on their basses.
Pretty happy with mine.
I would say Jacked-up jazz sound.
The pre amp is MC3 and is a decent overall match.
The BassMods bass is good too so allround package.

I have a question about these pickups first off I’m using a 2004 American standard p bass the bass came very dull sounding with stock pickups so I changed them to nordstrand np4a which gave it life. The issue was the bass and pickup didn’t sound like it should be married together it was very bitty sounding so I switch them to nordstrand np4v which helped but still a bit bitty I changed the cap to a .01 which helped. After doing so I still wasn’t happy with the pickup and felt the needed something so I went with a bead tuning this cured the bitty sound completely now my big issue is the npv4 don’t have enough output and definitely don’t like the down tune pickups very much. This is where this pickup comes into play in extremely interested in this because as it says it lives down tune pickups. Do you think this would work better in this bass or should I look else where? My background is rock ranging from 1990’s to modern days I want something that can cover good cleans with a sans amp to heavy distorted sounds. I don’t like down tuning my basses I like using bead tuning because I know all the notes better with bands that play in e flat and drop d I tend to use this bass a lot more and have better results just looking for something the will be good in this bass forever.

We’ll I bought this pickup. It didn’t like the bead tuning very much which is okay I put a set of normal 105-50 strings and it’s really up there in sound it’s literally my 2nd favorite pickup out there next to the nordstrand np4a pickup it nails that modern p bass sound I’ve been looking for it also takes out that bitty sound I didn’t like. it’s literally a perfect marriage wish I put this in sooner probably would of used this way more over the years. Looks like I may buy a second for my 2004 American deluxe p bass next

Anyone have any experience between the PMVC AL vs the PMVC FE?

I found a YouTube video between there two but I’m curious about output between them. Seems the FE is more popular.

I am trying to get something a little less woofy than my DiMarzio Model P and a little more upper mid grind.
