Delay: Convince Me Otherwise...

So I'm probably not going to go with anything else except the dd7, digidelay or the dl8. First choices would be the digitech. Honestly, would I be better off spending a bit extra and going with the dl8 or will the digidelay suffice? The digidelay is great, but I'm enticed by the longer looper function on the dl8. But maybe anything longer than the 4 seconds from the digidelay would be overkill. Obviously the dd7 will be a last resort as I am certain of its capabilities.

I definitely need some input!

I have the DL-8 and I really like it. I've never tried the DD7 or the digidelay so I can not directly compare. As far as using the looper. I thought 20 seconds was too short on the DL8 (but I didn't buy this for the looping) so the 4 seconds on the digidelay would really be lacking. The DL8 has a nice modulated setting, think chorus with delay. It is built really solid. It has indented knobs, so they sort of click as you turn, some people like this feature some don't. It has both stereo in and outs, another great feature if you have other stereo pedals. I would try and sit down and compare the two side by side and see if you think it is worth the extra cash. I personaly think it is.

I would go for the DL8. I had an Echo Park for 3 years and I had a hard time finding another digital delay at its size and price point that could beat it. Plus you don't have to do that stupid 2 second hold thing to activate the tap tempo, you just gently tap the switch and you just push a little bit harder till it makes a click sound to turn it on or off. I think the DL8 might have a similar feature?

I would suggest checking out the akai headrush e2.

Cons:
Can't be battery powered
High power draw (160mA)
It's HUGE!

Pros:
35.6 seconds loop time, only 5(ish) less than the boss
analogue delay modelling
has the tap tempo built in
can split your signal to up to 5 amps
Generally cheaper than the boss or hardwire (at least it is in the uk)
Over all, after getting the boss AND the footswitch AND patch cables there is not a huge footprint difference and is actually slightly smaller than a boss twin pedal
LED always flashes to tell you the tempo, no more trial and error or guessing the speed
