Yesterday I got to deliver the goods and it was marvelous.
I have been cultivating a relationship with a studio owner, engineer, drummer and producer for a while who operates a boutique studio not far from my home. I have been to see him play several times and visited his studio hoping for the opportunity to play and perhaps get into his little tight knit community of creative talent. He called and asked me to play bass for a newly written song he was recording for a project with a legendary singer, of course I said yes.
I packed up a couple of basses Taz and Toney because this producer prefers old school. Toney is my incognito studio Pbass.
with EMG HB pickups with passive electronics tuned by Jon B @ Tonecraft and ancient rounds. The producer set up to record running my bass through a UA LA610 and a Manley EQP-1A
After a short meet and greet with the artist and his wife . Then we got to work with the attentive producer and songwriter artist and heavenly vocalist. The track had the vocal and two acoustic guitar parts and a click track with plans to add percussion. There was no sheet for the tune so I had to head it but it was pretty straight forward in A Major.
I did a scratch track then another simple pass that were both keepers but they asked me to free it up and go for it looking for ideas. There were a few ideas we pursued and experimented with trying variations. Once we were happy and all agreed with the constructed part I went ahead and did one more take and luckily nailed it. It has been years since doing this king of session but these are to me the most rewarding.
As @BassCliff says thanks for your indulgence, sorry no food pix and next time I promise photos. I didn't take any this time and did not get permission to drop any names but will in the future as it looks like there will be more sessions. Until then Peace, Love, Happiness and Groove Deeply!
