Dell buys Alienware

Actually there are a lot of cases over here where Dell and other companies ARE cheaper than building your own.....

Yup. I just bought a Dell with a 19" LCD for a buddy of mine. It has a P4 2.8Ghz, 512RAM, 60GB HD, and a DVD Burner. Shipped to him, it was $600.

I don't know of anywhere I can build a PC to match those specs for under $600. If someone else does, let me know.

I never saw why people bought alienwarez computers, they are waaaaay too overpriced for what they are

I bought an overpriced Alienware because of an advertised $500 manufacturer rebate. The after-rebate price was fairly reasonable. Unfortunately, Alienware stole my rebate. Their excuse was that the paperwork I submitted was incorrect... what a bunch of BS. So, while I have a good Alienware PC, it is waaaaaaaaay overpriced. I'll never buy another Alienware.

Interestingly, last week a coworker told me about a news show he saw ... one of the features was that Dell is terrible at returning rebates. He asked if I had gotten screwed by Dell, but I reminded him that I was screwed by Alienware. So this probably means that Dell bought Alienware because their business practices are compatible.

I'm trying to decide whether my Alienware boycott should also apply to Dell.
