Yeah, I reckon those demos with matching headstocks are going to end up being one-offs fo' sho'. Wish I'd had the scratch to score that pink baby!

But the colors - I think we might someday see shell pink again, or fiesta red or the others, depending on whether or not these are a hit and continue to be built. I'm guessing, though.

And as to why Sterling changed his mind, I dunno. Again just a guess - maybe Scott built one or two and showed them to him? I can't imagine you'd see one and say, "That seems like a bad idea."

that was my first thought. but it doesn't take away as much as the truss rod wheel. and unlike the truss rod wheel and battery compartment, which are merely convenient, the new nut is supposed to make it play in tune better. that to me makes it a glaring omission.. why tip the hat to looks, especially on the BACK of the bass, and not include something so simple that makes it a better bass?

agreed, tho... these are very very nice.

i appreciate the fact this is not a reissue, per se. i think of it as a classic with updates. but the selection and omission of updates is puzzling... especially the compensated nut. if the new nut makes for a more in tune instrument, why in the world would you leave it off??

You're right about it not being a reissue and maybe some decisions simply came down to what looked right to the guys making the decisions. I mean, you can't see the neck/body joint with the bass strapped on, but you can see the nut. (And I personally don't think the compensated nut is a huge deal unless you're playing chords.) (And I seldom venture about the 5th fret, no money further up!)

We micro-argued before about all the appointments - battery cover, whether the neck should be finished, etc etc - but it is what it is. I think it's a decent blend of old and new. Thank god there's no micro-tilt or bullet truss!

On the compensated nut....
I own very old Rays and a very new one, and I can't tell a darn bit difference in that nut. Maybe I'm the nut, but I do play quite a bit of chorded/open chord stuff and to me it sounds the same. :confused:

I wan't one of these in a bad way. I'm actually glad they aren't available to order until NAMM, cuz I don't have the green for one now anyways.

Well, I've always liked white pickup covers, what can I say? I'm a bit annoyed they're so rare and for some reason someone decided that bass pickups HAVE to be black whereas you see a lot more white and chrome on geetars. :hiding:

Very nice. I'd have a tough time deciding between sonic, fiesta and trans white. So if any one of those colors (or the previously displayed surf green) gets made soon, I'll be happy.

One thing that is hugely attractive on these that so far nobody has mentioned is the 7.5" neck radius. NICE!! Did they EVER make a Stingray with that neck? If so, I've never had one in my hands. I might buy one of these because it does embody the features that I would want in a Stingray.

Add the HH configuration and I'm in line to buy one.

Yes, the preEB StingRays and Sabres have that fretboard radius. If I remember right, the late 80's EB 4-bolt/bullet truss necks might still had it too, before the 6-bolt/wheel truss neck transition.

HH wasn't available on those old style StingRays.

I'm REALLY liking that Sonic Blue although it would look better with a white pearloid pickguard to match the pickup cover. Still looks cool though. Too bad the Fiesta Red pictures aren't great; so many JPEG artifacts.


As for Sabre reissues, what would the G&L guys say about that?
