I have been using the Demeter VTBP-201s and the Yamaha PB-1 (As well as a number of analog and digital options) for a long time, both live and studio. I recently got this Demeter HBP-1. This tone is direct out of the Demeter Jensen DI into the board. Bongo 6 with a fresh, just strung up Thomastik Jazz Flats.

I do think the HBP-1 is punchier and bit harder / focused sounding than the VTBP-1. Certain basses, certain strings, will benefit from that. Its super musical still. The tube front end, without the solid state EQ engaged is supposed to be identical to the VTBP-1, and it's really close IMO. - Anyway for those seeking a great DI for DIRECT analog pre recording, no speaker sim or anything like that, this has been super pleasant to work with. Cheers, RG

Good bass. I’ve been recording with mine for 16 years. Do you run the EQ button on the back engaged or flat?

If the HBP1 was built without the Jensen the switch on the back is line level & mic. Push the button in for line level. After the Jensen transformer is added the switch becomes an EQ and flat switch. Push the button in for flat.
