Double Bass Detuning guts

Do any of you loosen your gut strings when you don't anticipate playing for a while (days, weeks, months)?

Thinking about the health and longevity of the string.

Nope but I play them just about every day.

Nope... but I play just about every night, and I live on Maui, so the weather's really stable.

I know people that do, but I personally don't. So Cal weather (humidity vs. dry) is pretty stable here as well. Plus, I'm always playing.

I made the mistake of having my guy strung bass in a warehouse during a dry santa ana windstorm. The G and the D snapped because I did not downtune them. If you keep your bass outside or exposed in anyway to temperature/humidity changes, you want to downtune. If you play all the time and the bass is in your temperature controlled room, you should be ok leaving them as is.
