i was wondering if you could put 5 hipshot detuners on a bass so you could drop all the notes rather then just the B string.

You can, Hipshot makes bent arms by special request so you can flip the lever without hitting anything.

I would be concerned that the additional weight of the de-tuners could throw off the balance of the bass, making it neck heavy.
That might add quite a bit of weight. But as long as you can keep the levers from hitting the other tuners, I don't see why not... your truss rod may not appreciate it though.
That would be my concern. I could see it working on a graphite neck though, Michael Manring does it.

It would take some patience to set up, but it could work with a couple of compromises. You'll have to set up your bass so the strings don't bottom out when detuned, so your action might be a little high when you're tuned standard. And as mentioned already, it might cause some neck dive.
