I ordered a new iPod from Apple two weeks ago, and then a few days after, I realized that I should get one of those clear screen things to protect the iPod. So I ordered it from a store on Amazon (not from Amazon's store, but a independent store that uses Amazon). They shipped via DHL (Amazon uses UPS, I think).

This morning, I woke up, and I heard someone ringing the doorbell. So I open the door, and this woman whom I've never seen stands in front of the door. She gave me a padded envelope. After some chatting, she told me that DHL delivered the iPod screen protector to her house a few days back (she didn't even live on my street). She lives on Fay Street, and I live on Lewis Avenue... I don't know how DHL gets this stuff wrong. I'm just glad it was just an iPod screen protector and nothing urgent... also glad that the woman was nice enough to find my house and give it to me...

So the moral lesson here is: DO NOT USE DHL.

DHL is only as good as the moron driving the truck.

Depending on who's driving, we've had a few morons at UPS and FedEx too. Around here, the DHL drivers are great.

Dude, if you live on Lewis, that puts you around the corner from the Broadway diner doesn't it?

we go through this every time we get a new driver on our route.....We run a small business out of our house and we have had accounts with all three companies for over three years and just this week we got a postcard in the mail from Fed-Ex saying they could not locate our physical address......after delivering packages here on a daily basis for three years....lol....they switched drivers...and it was a ground package and not an express package (which means different DC's and different drivers)....UPS delivered a package to the same address in another town we were lucky enough to have them call us as our # was on the package and we went and got it....and a week later we got their package delivered to us...lol

UPS also left a bass at my gate.... right on the highway that was clearly marked Bass Guitar on the box.....

I sent a package to Ohio via DHL and it went to California....they all suck and they are all idiots....

We use FedEx for documents DHL for most item shipments at work, as that's what most of our foreign customers request. Usually no problems with any of the big couriers, though, except European courier TNT Express. Their packages usually get the living crap beat out of them on the way to us. Not to long ago, though, we had to ship a few liters of IFO 380 (ship fuel) to Houston for testing. DHL called me the next day to say that a handler managed to destroy the package and its contents. I imagine that was a nice little mess! Might teach that handler to be a little more careful in the future after they were covered with essentially diesel fuel! :D

I work everyday with receiving stuff by DHL and man their trucks are a hell of a mess. It seriously is very dangerous to ship something by them if it is fragile. I mean, all the boxes are tossed in the truck and that's it. When the driver arrives somewhere, he has to dig up stuff to find the right boxes. Anyway, use UPS or Purolator, they are the ones that are the more organized and that put attention to the boxes.

I use DHL for international shipping quite often. NEVER had a problem. It works much better if you use the recipients account. That allows them to prep and provide you with all the proper customs and duty forms filled out the way THEY want................and get the odd addresses in the right boxes on the forms :D
All I do is put the item in the box, print the shipping papers and call DHL. They bring the shipping bags and label holders. NO problemo :hyper:

Unless you have some sort of corporate account with special pricing, it makes no sense to use them domestically. The local drivers here are all very professional and polite.

I think they all have their moments. I got a bass shipped from a fellow TBer in Texas to my place in Winnipeg by FedEX. Cost me $70. Yesterday I wanted to ship a pedal board to a fellow TBer in Florida. FedEX quoted me a rate of $351. Huh? I didn't even bother to discuss it with the guy. I figured he must of thought I meant some other Florida. Ending up using Canada Post.

They should handle everything with care but........

What I ship is always small, heavily padded and pretty much bombproof. They could kick it all the way to Japan or Germany and it would arrive in good condition.

How many amps do you need by the way?? :eyebrow: :hiding:

Hahaha moron driving the truck... Yes I live around the corner from Broadway Diner. The owner of that diner lives across the street from me, I used to work for her too!

I had to ship a pedal to Spain once, and I used USPS. The after two months the pedal was returned to me, so I sent it again, and now it's been about 6 months, and the buyer never got the pedal and I never got the return. Figures, it's USPS, not IPS.

I wouldn't have known then... I worked there four or five years ago (joined this forum two years ago) only for one summer, then I went back to school. The Asian lady who works as the host (I don't know if she's still the host or not now) used to be a friend of my mom's, and they had some business/enterprise together for a while.
