Ok, there were a couple of requests-

First, the JDI vs. no di at all. Same method, using the buffered Visual Volume to split the signal and record two simultaneous tracks. One using the JDI into the interface, the other plugged straight in.

Just the bass:

JDI:

I honestly cant hear any difference between these two. Maybe, if I try really hard, the JDI is less compressed - but there's nothing fundamentally different about the JDI and the straight signal.

I was also asked about the Aguilar vs. the Brick. Same method here:

I did this comparison a while ago and heard no difference. I did this time, though! To my ears, the Aguilar is more compressed and balanced overall. The Brick has some solid extra booty though! Hmmm,....

For the record, I rarely use any of these DI's live! My go-to 'gig' di is my custom DHA DI-EQ. I like having a little bit of eq control going to the desk. Sometimes, I'll use the Aguilar live- for TV or Radio broadcast.

This is the DHA in context this past week on 'Canada a.m.' Ignore the Markbass Amp, it was miced but not used.

I like a colored DI for the studio as well,.. so the Aguilar is probably still my go-to. But, The Brick is cool too. Nice to have options!

Anyways, the JDI is for sale. It's great, but just not what I personally need!

Wow, thanks for the fast response! I couldn't hear any difference between the bass and the JDI. The JDI sure lives up to it's reputation as a clean DI.

Re this comment and other recommendations for the Radial J48: I can't hear any difference between my JDI and my active basses. But the JDI's low input impedance (10K) darkens up passive Fenders quite a bit.

That's where the active J48 (or if you have the dough, the JDV) really starts to shine.

Hmmm,... With a reasonable length cable, the JDI input should be fine with a passive bass. Maybe not, though- 10k input really isn't very high!

Thanks so much for these clips. I've been using a brick for a few yrs. and have recently thought about replacing it with a VT or something....just to have the convienience of not having to warm up tubes, but after hearing all your clips, I'm going to stay with the Brick.
To my ears the Brick adds warmth.

The brick is my new favorite. I still don't like the aguilar at all. Would love to here the REDDI and U5 in there as well.

What interface are you using scotch? Sorry if I missed that.

The interface is a Digidesign Mbox2Pro.

I'm always tempted to get a Reddi,... I love how they sound and have used them enough to feel confident with one. But, I like to record with both a di and amp as much as possible & the Reddi is just too colored and vibey to layer with an amp as well. Still, they kick major butt!
