Diabetes

Worse than Turtles??!!
I kid, but is that because of the carbohydrate factor. S.O. looked at a trusted Dr's web-site that stated that a whole wheat bagel would be OK. I'm sure that opinions vary.
Thursday I see Dr. and I think get nutritional advice. I'm trying best I can to do the right thing.

What is being sold to us as 'whole grain' is still mostly densely-packed, high-glycemic-index, cheap carbohydrates. Your bagel is still a highly refined food, and I'd doubt that a 'whole wheat bagel' is more than 50% whole wheat flour. Any bagel is nearly or more than 50g carbs, and the 'whole wheat' version will have enough fiber to reduce the net carbs a bit. But it's still a LOT of refined flour. Best to avoid it, or eat half of a half.

You might consider seeing a nutritionist or a dietitian. Your doctor is probably not a great source for nutritional advice except in a general way. Besides, he or she probably gets a grand total of 12 minutes with you. It's unlikely they'll know the really good tricks, such as...

Craving a baked potato, but you don't dare because they're a mega crapton of carbs? Bake one today. Put it in the fridge overnight. Tomorrow you have a potato far lower on the glycemic index, because overnight refrigeration turns it into a resistant starch. Still, eat half.

Thanks for the heads-up info. Lots to consider especially since for the most part I never gave this kind of thing a second thought.
I am scheduled to see an actual Nutritionist, and my SO actually is quite into good vs. bad foods, that helps.

Hey Be gentle with me! It's my first time!:roflmao:

Yeah, there's a lot to learn. And what we have been conditioned to think of as 'healthy food' may... not be.

Beware "healthy" low fat yoghurt... they load it with sugar to make up for the taste sensations lost from using lower fat dairy!

Beware corn syrup which is added to things you would never imagine, even meat products, as a flavour enhancer (i.e. To make up for the fact that they've used the cheapest possible, less flavourful ingredients to reduce production costs)...

Yes, you will learn a whole new foreign language as a diabetic... food labelling!!!!!

...Took me (5) attempts to get a good "prick" (no pun at all intended) on my finger because &**^% meter kept timing out this AM.
Ouchie!:roflmao:

But seriously, I am going to ask Dr. tomorrow if I MUST do that annoying meter 3X day.
Why????

OK JOKE TIME!

Guy goes to Dr. He's not feeling well.
There must, of course, be tests.
Doc says: "Call me tomorrow, we'll know!"

Guy calls, Doc says:
"I have results...Good news and... Bad news...."

"OMG OMG" says guy, "Tell me the bad news first!"

Doc:
"Well, there's really NOTHING we can do for you... You probably will be dead by lunchtime."

"OMG... OMG...what could the good news POSSIBLY be?" says guy.

Doc: "Hey did you notice my new, young, HOT Nurse??? She's having dinner w/ me tonight!"

(Rimshot)
(Cleaned Up for PG rating.

Try the Veal, w/out salt.:roflmao:

Salted!!!

At home make your own... easy and tastier!!!!! And fun!!!
PS! I mean this...

Whoa. You have some work to do, my friend!

Whoa, No sh** my friend.'Why do you think I'm seeing the Doctor and following this regimen?
With a family history & such, this is obviously a condition that has been "brewing" for some time & only came to light because I saw a physician.
The rest is history; the future is bright as far as I'm concerned as far as dealing with this issue.

Comments in posts like the last (2), sorry IMO
NG. And negative in nature.
Just my .02, YMMV, etc.
Not my style, at the very least.

I'm keeping my BP & blood sugar down by watching disturbing films & we found this Eli Roth level of gorefest called Pernicious.
It's not rated very high, but the clincher for us was that's it set in Thailand. Authentic Thai language & settings, very cool!

It also helped that there were three stunning ladies in it!

type 2 diabetic here. couple things that worked for me -

first, if you don't need results accurate to within the last 10 minutes, some meters let you stick your thigh, which hurts a lot less. i jump up and down for a minute or run in place for a few seconds to get the blood flowing.

second, for several years i kept my blood sugar normal by diet and exercise. i ate smaller meals, never more than 20 grams of carbs in each - often only 2 or 3 for some. on a workout day, i ate more without going over 120 2 hours after eating. when i first was diagnosed, i took a 10 minute walk after each meal, and it seemed to keep the peaks down, too.

Well, thanks, that might work-Who knows?
However- I'm already tired of seeing the rather small amount of blood from sticking my fingers 3X daily, so a "Slasher" pic might not exactly be what the Doc ordered. pun intended.

The stunning ladies- That might have a positive effect, especially if they were to, ummm "disrobe" or something as an integral part of the plot....
