I thought about that later and it's what I wished I'd done. That, or nothing. Can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, though..
So you're a talented and capable singer and you made an amateur look silly. Kinda like an NBA player dunking on a high schooler. What was the point of that? You didn't like the amateur's version of the song. So what?

If he was still on stage he was still doing his thing. You took it away. Wrong on you. People may have thanked you afterwards, but I guarantee there were more people talking about what a rude move that was. You should apologize to the guy. You obviously upset him. In my book, not cool. Besides that, if you have to post here on talkbass to figure out if it was wrong to do, I think you already know the answer.

OK, I get we're at a weird time in society with safe spaces and therapy pets at colleges. But let's get real!!!! You're telling me that one drunk guy grabbing a mic from another drunk guy warrants a punch in the face and is tantamount to ASSAULT????

The only hero move would've been to stand beside him, share the mic & help him finish it.

The funny thing is, "The Spirit of Radio" was on the list, but when I asked the band to do it, they said they couldn't really play it.
There is the possibility they might not remember the whole affair if all involved were intoxicated.
I too am an avid Rush fan, but, that tune will stand the test of time-his and your versions won't. Quite frankly, that tune has been butchered more than properly played. One more person wouldn't matter regardless how much I couldn't stand it.
Sometimes, ya just gots enjoy the show while folks make a donkeys rear end of themselves.
Thinking about it later, if someone had done that to me, I probably would have been pretty pissed.

Mmmm, i will side with the not cool. Sorry. Put yourself in their shoes. Say you were playing at a gig, and struggling on a song. Someone steps on stage, take your bass and finishes the song better than you could ever play it. How would you feel? I know this was basically karaoke,
Probably could have been handled better, but I personally have ZERO patience for drunks stinking up the room in any capacity, so maybe the dude will reflect on his own inability to read the room or estimate his own skills after drinking.
The "Alcohol" factor doesn't help and it sounds like "Liquid Fueled Childishness" all around.

As a lifelong Rush fan, I get it...believe me, I get it. Heard way too many butchered Rush tunes in my life.
But NOT COOL, I mean really not cool. You humiliated a guy in public, in front of his wife.
I frankly don't know how you're going to make this right, because the person who you really offended is the wife (you made her husband look bad, in public, and believe me women don't forgive or forget that) and she is not going to care one wit about some book full of old guitars.

You need to add injury to insult and shag up with his wife.
Why risk making enemies over something so trivial? Let the guy have his moment and shine in his wife's eyes. Yes, you were 'that guy'. He made a buzzed mistake, then you shamed him for it in front of a crowd. Now requiring damage control - all avoidable.
