Did McCartney play a lot of open strings?

I don't know for sure, but since had 'em he might as well've used 'em. I wasn't a big Beatles listener, but I don't think he used open strings in order to smoothly execute big intervals or super fast bass lines.
That was rare, a moment of experimentation to get a particular sound. I wouldn't dwell on it

He was all over the neck sometimes so I tend to doubt it, his lines don't sound like he uses any more open strings than anyone else to me either. What song was it and approximately what year? Was it a key change and was he singing lead?
His bass only had 4 of them. I don't think he could have played more than 4 open notes. Same for Billy Shears.
They had a 6 string Fender bass they sometimes played with.
It was one b&w photo, and then from the back. I'm wondering if he capo-ed it to simulate the Hofner's shortscale neck?

I found this from the From the Rubber Soul sessions but can't find him doing it with a Hofner, it's in A obviously. I've fooled around with them before but never had a good enough one to use on a bass although I think I've tried, it could be good for a special effect I suppose.

That's cool. I use capos for writing on guitar and sometimes they make it to the actual song. I've never really considered using one on bass until someone here last week called using a capo on a bass "a mortal sin". This pic proves there are no such things as mortal sins.
