McCartney did die, and the man we know now is an imposter / double.

I was told it's actually Neil Young when he's not touring.

I saw an interview in the 70's where the first question to Paul and Linda was "Those rumours about your death...were they true?" Broke them both up, and was the start of a great interview.

To believe that he died, you'd have to believe that they could really install an imposter for the most successful musician on the planet, who would look and sound enough like Paul to pass for him and had the talent to write equally successful material in a similar vein for Wings and solo stuff (longer than he was in the Beatles in fact) as well as playing all the same instruments. You'd have to believe that after during the acrimonious breakup of the Beatles no-one would give the secret away, and likewise that friends and family would play along. You'd have to reconcile the contradictory details in the rumours...for example was the replacement Billy Shears or Willie Campbell? Given that the first "clues" appeared on Pepper if I recall correctly, you'd have to conclude that Paul's best work was done by the imposter.

You can decide what you believe.

No, in my original post I stated that I do not believe he actually died, but that there were some symbolic gestures going on.

There is a great documentary on this. It's called something like, The Last Will and Testament of George Harrison. A supposed tape that he made before he died to tell all. I think the real Paul died long ago.

One thing that came up in a discussion once was the possibility that Stu Sutcliffe was in reality Paul McCartney and that the Paul we all know and love is actually Stu Sutcliffe. Interesting dynamic, and if you think about the fact that Stu Sutcliffe died around the time of the rumor if I remember correctly, it could be plausible.

Interesting discussions though. The person we all know and love as Macca never died, for sure. But what if he wasn't in real life Macca but Stu?

At the time the sales of Beatles records was starting to tapper off, so this was the greatest marketing plan of all time, leak just enough phony clues and let the intrest grow!

In a related note, I do think we landed on the moon. However, that video footage is Hollywood. Why? They didn't have the proper technology to send an audio AND video feed 238,857 miles (distance to the moon) at that time. They couldn't even shoot a broadcast from the the East to West coast without repeaters and that is only about 2-3% of that distance. We needed "proof" to show the American people and the world and it came from a Hollywood studio.

Did McCartney die? Yes, but it was later in the nineties and he was replaced by Angela Lansbury after Murder She Wrote was cancelled.
