I finally set up my practice space for recording and got some good sound clips of my effects.

The lineage was:

Jerzy Drozd 5-string -> pedals -> Sadowsky SA200 -> Berg HS210 -> AKG perception 420 mic -> Yamaha mixer -> Cubase

The mic was set about 2 feet from the cab and set on cardioid. I had the pickup blend on my bass set at center.

Dry Signal
Unaffected signal, nothing noteworthy here.

Sansamp VT Bass
This thing just sounds so killer. As close as you can get to an SVT without having to lug the 80-pound beast around.

Boss BF-2 Flanger
Best flanger EVER. Just nails that classic "for the love of money" sound. I've got the resonance set pretty low on the sound clip, but when set a little higher, the tone is spot-on.

Analogman King of Tone
Overdrive/clean boost. It took 2 years to get but it was totally worth it. I have the drive set at 12 or below in the clips (I just use it for some coloration) but it's capable of more distortion. It does loose some low end if the drive is really cranked up though.
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] drive at 10, tone at 12.
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] drive at 12, tone at 1.

New KoT clips
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] drive at 3, tone at 3
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] drive at 3, tone at 2

I recorded some more King of Tone clips to show how much drive is possible. The red channel has more distortion available and retains the low end better. The yellow channel looses low end unless the drive is below 12, so I use it more for tone shaping. Pickup blend was all the way on the neck pickup for these clips. And in case you couldn't tell from the clips, I was listening to Death Cab today. :)

Groove Regulator with EHX Micro POG in loop
I picked up a Micro POG in a trade a few weeks ago, and I've been on the fence about keeping it. There's no denying the downright flawless tracking though!

I also (finally!) put decent clips of the filter by itself up on my website.

Thoughts?

I see a Tone Hammer. :)

Nice clips, man! Thank you for sharing them with us and taking the time to set up and record your gear. Like katri said, that's some nice gear you've accumulated.

The Chameleon clip up on the website is friggin' deliciousness.

(And if you're thinking of letting the MicroPOG go, let me know.)

great playing. i couldn't really hear much going on with the Overdrive, though... maybe it's because i expected much more heavy-handed use of drive... the VT sounded great, for sure. i guess i don't usually associate the sound of an SVT with that style of playing, though... maybe to me i need to hear a P-bass with a pick to get the SVT vibe fully.

the tonal effects of the Overdrive might just have to be the sort of thing you experience in the room, rather than on my iMac speakers....

Hmm. I like the Analogman, but it is definitely a subtle sound.

It's simple, but I dig that Death Cab line. And not to totally derail things, but I didn't realize until my girlfriend started listening to the new album, but their drummer plays a lot of interesting stuff.

So last night I listened to your clips and then decided to go make some ambient whatever around midnight, attempting to create a soothing whirl of positive energy or something to that effect. The woman walked by and said "ooooooh I like that, sounds pretty." After 10 minutes or so of trying to continually impress her, I turned off all the delays, phasers, tremolos, and, while just leaving the flanger on, started jamming on For the Love of Money myself. Somewhere in the background I heard her start cracking up. Mission Accomplished.

So yeah, thanks for the clips! Great tones and playing.
