did you keep your 1st bass?

First bass was some Jackson-charvell no frills model with p-style pickups. Christmas 1993. I would've kept it but, my dad smashed it against a tree in 1994 as a way of "convincing" me to take a math class that I did not want to take.

Nope. Mine was a no name 3/4 scale bass I bought for $50 used at a mall music store. I lent it to a friend after I stopped playing for a while and he did not take very good care of it. I still have my first amp, however, a Peavey TKO 65 bought new at the same time.

Holy carp, I think I just found it (or an identical model). I came across the name "Cort" on another website and that triggered something deep in my memory. It was definitely a Cort, and while I bought it used, it was in "like new" condition.

I had that same acoustic guitar style case with it as well.

Yes, I still have my first one and it will not ever leave. It is an Ibanez RB 924CS that I bought new in 1983. In fact, just this week I added a 1984 Ibanez RB750 to the flock. Same body shape, same Super P5 in the neck position but different pup in the bridge.

I still have my first, its a 4 string Skull and Bones Squier bass. The only reason I never parted with it is that it was probably played around 6 months until I got my first six string. After that it's been sitting in pristine condition, and the trade in value nowadays is less than what a good pedal might be worth...

I still have my first bass but I don't it play much it and need to trade it in. I held onto my first guitar for sentimental reasons for a while. Then one day played it for old times sake and remembered it was a complete piece of crap guitar. So I traded it in and don't regret it a bit. My first bass is a good bit better (affinity) that plays well but if I ever see a MIM jazz in the local shop I'll trade it in a heartbeat.

My first guitar was a Lyle copy of a Gibson Dove, complete with a tune-o-matic bridge (on an acoustic!!) It is 47 years old now and sounds better than any real Dove I've played in person.

My first electric guitar was a Hohner G3T headless, in white. Lost it to a pawn shop - didn't pay it in time. I was a little sad about that.

My first bass was a Steinberger Q4 in fire-burst. The top had finish cracks in it. It was a good bass, but for some reason when I would tighten the strings they would bottom out the bridge pieces - a string adapter fixed that, but it was still annoying. I eventually sold it, but I wish I still had it. Even though I don't play four strings any more.

I'm over those however, and I still have my acoustic (it was a wedding present from my dad to my mom). It will be passed down to my kids. I have one nice electric guitar now (DBZ Barchetta), a nice, custom five string; a Samick five string, and a Douglas six string. One day I'll have a trio of seven string basses - that's next on the GAS list.

OP, you decide, but if you don't like playing it, why keep it? Is it special in some other way?

My first bass, Rogue, wasn't intended for me to keep, but I ended up playing bass after all. Sold that, my second bass (Mustang) and my third bass (Jazz). I soon went to five-stringers but I'm still hanging on to my fourth, a four-string MIM P just to have one in the music room. I don't miss anything I've sold so far.

Electric Guitars, sold a bunch of them, have three, but only mess around with one, never played guitar on-stage.
