I'm new to the Fretless world as I have a 2009 Fender American Fretless.It plays well as the action isn't real low but high enough for my liking.When I compare it to my Fender P,"fretted neck", the natural volume difference between the two is considerable.I have both pickups on the Fretless adjusted within 3/16" below the strings.Dumb question,is it normal for a Fretless to not put out the same natural volume as a fretted neck?I have passive pickups in both basses as the electronics in both are working fine.

Difference In Volume In Basses

Not really. It's probably a difference in the pickups and/or electronics. And maybe playing style a little bit, but it shouldn't be massively noticeable.
Each of my basses puts out a completely different volume. It makes sharing a pedalboard something of a challenge. Wish I had an input attenuator selection box with three or four presets to compensate for it. (Hmm, I should ask about that in a separate thread.)
