Difficulty choosing a preamp pedal

Hello community,

I would like to get a preamp pedal, but have difficulties choosing one. The pedals that interest me most are:

* Sansamp bass VT DI
* Darkglass B7K

I have heard a lot of good things about both the VT and B7K. But I'm worried that the B7K just might be a bit too aggressive? I'm not planning on using them as distortion/drive pedals, but I'd rather have them permanently switched on to improve my sound. I'm very fond of the bass sound of bands like karnivool, Tool and Intronaut (Intronaut uses a fretless bass, but the tone is very good).

Here I have posted a link to an old song of my band. This might give you an idea of the kind of music that I'm playing / interested in. Basically, I'm just not sure what pedal would work best for me, the VT or B7k :s

Thanks in advance,
Me:bag:

I was going to say the rusty box, also check out the Correct Sound custom beta hybrid. Ignore the YouTube voids, they are all gain maxed out........

Perfect for what U are looking for, 2 channels, one tube, one SS. You can stack, in either direction and have independent volumes plus a master volume.

The sun coast analog b1p is worth trying as well

Another to consider is the VMT deluxe!! though it doesn't get as bright it as the B7K, it has much warmer overdrive with a pleasant slight midrange boost so its much closer to a cranked tube amp than the 7!

I switched to the VMTD because not only were sound techs telling me to back off the treble, but once I built my fEARful cab I could clearly hear what they were taking about, where with a typical cab alot of the treble is attenuated!! Of course you dial back the treble, or maybe use the DI on your amp instead which might attenuate a little itself...

With all that said, I find both the B7K and VMTD can get close to that tool sound and the 7 is a little more versatile!! Really I just prefer the drive on the VMT though, I find it vastly superior to any tech21 products!!
