Difficulty finding good sound

I play a fender jazz in a rock cover band and I use a me50b effects pedal. I have a line 6 amp but I DI the bass so it doesn't make much difference to the front of house sound. We use an Allen &heath desk etc.

I'm finding it hard to find the sound I want. I want the sound that kinda punches you in the chest but not to overpower drums & guitar etc. I've heard bands have the sound perfect.

I've tried changing it around a few times with the preamp but even with low or mid boosted on the pedal the notes hang after I've released or the D &G strings are very quiet and the E&A are too boomy. I have to EQ at the start of every gig at the minute just to get it sounding half decent but it's not what I want. The speakers are JBL and powerful so that isn't the problem. Any suggestions are welcome thanks.

sounds like you need to cut some low frequencies to get rid of the boomyness. you should use compression as well to balance out the difference between the E/ A and D/G strings.
get your sound adjusted with the band playing as well, so it's sits in the mix the way you want.
usually a nice bass tone on it's own doesn't sit well in a mix and vice versa
