Hi all, I was thinking about buying a digitech bass whammy pedal, but on the power input it says 9v 1300mA. I don’t want to use the cumbersome included wall wart, so would it be fine to hook it up to a 9v 500mA power supply?

Digitech Bass Whammy

It doesn't even need 500mA. No clue why the manual or PSU that comes with it are as they are. I haven't had any issues with the pedal/MIDI giving it 300mA.
These barely draw just over 200mA. The supplied Walmart is way overkill.

i'm interested in the bass whammy. How's the bypass? does it suck tone?
I wish digitech come up with a Ricochet for bass. I tried the ricochet but i suck a bit of low end.

If we're talking the original Bass Whammy, which I've owned for decades now, it definitely affects tone all the time as it's not true bypass. I haven't had mine on the board in a very long time and would probably only give it ago again with one of the reissues. It was a cool pedal for its time but I think the options are much better now.
Although the new one it's true bypass (at least that's what Digitech says), I find that it affects the signal when bypassed, and not in a good way. Nothing dramatic, and it's only noticiable when comparing the signal with and without the pedal. For sure nobody would notice that difference in a mix. I didn't like it, but if you need that kind of sounds and control over them, there's no other like the Whammy and probably it's something that one can live with. I still keep it, if it says something to you. Fun pedal, out of question. Well constructed and very unique sounding.
