Digitech Drop pedal combined with other effects.

OK, so here’s a question for those who use the Digitech Drop frequently, I’m just curious if you’re running into a similar situation, or if it’s just me.

So, a little pedalboard rundown.

Wireless into Patchbay-->Tuner-->Drop-->Boost-->MS-3

In the MS-3 loops are the Spectrum, Octave & Blower Box

Then it’s MS-3-->Aftershock-->Comp-->BDDI-->Patchbay.

So the “issue” is, when I’m playing with the drop disengaged everything sounds fine, all the effects are dialed and I’m stoked. Then when I engage the Drop (1/2 step down), the clean bass sounds good, but pretty much all of the drives sound kinda off, even more noticeable when you run a Phase or Autowah effect with the drive.

I guess the best way to describe the drive tone would be “loose” not really very defined? Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I just being too picky.

Kind of yeah, it can make the tone a little strange. I've found that it depends on the type of drive and tone I'm going for. I really don't notice it with doom tones using a lot of gain, even when dropping the pitch by a 4th. I don't think there is really a fix for it and the Drop algorithm is still the best on the market IMO.

Yeah, this was kinda my fear...I mean the drives are "passable", but just not how I like them, I'm going to (begrudgingly) see if I can build a few patches around the dropped tone, I'm sure there is probably someway to EQ the patches that'll clean them up a bit, I was just trying to avoid building new patches to accommodate a particular effects pedal, but I guess at the end of the day, it's still easier than dragging around a second down tuned bass...

When the Drop is engaged the buffer is on, so that could be messing with your downstream dirt. I know this goes against what the manual says, but try the Drop post-dirt and see what happens.

I run my Bass into the Drop and Envelope Filter and then to the input of my pre ( GED 2112 ).These two pedals love / need a good fundamental signal to work well ( imo ). The rest of my pedalboard….Tuner >comp>EQ>chorus runs through my FX loop . The Drop does not like to be after any modulation. ( on my pb ).Also , the drop sucks the highs off my tone , so I usually have to compensate the EQ when I play with Eb bands.
