I missed this earlier and would have gotten the lightbulb in the head moment and get what you wanted to do. I think when people see " royal blood" anything they think pog right away and start discussing that option. Your post was clear on what you wanted to do but as like me didn't read your post right and a few posts later I figured what your wanting. What I meant earlier for "can't do chords" part was me thinking performing a single note on the bass to get a "powerchord" sound hence recommending using an octave up pedal and a 5th up pedal for powerchords in a rock style band where your filling the rhythm guitar in throughtout a song/ guitar solo etc. I do this for allot of old punk and classic rock material and assume this is what people want when they wanna spilt their signal octave up guitar amp and assume means made an ass of u and me sorry bout that haha.Your ricochet is essentially a pog anyways with more features in my eyes and like a pog should track and sound the same performing octave up doing single notes and chords no problem. Just wanted to clarify the confusion you had when I said can't do chords part. Cheers!
FWIW, I don't know if I've ever heard Royal Blood.
But I did understand the function he was after and, having a major pedal board set up that I use for exactly this same
purpose (as I play in lots of trios) as well as guitar chords/8 & 12 string bass/harp (chordally with my 6 string), etc..
But the heart of it all starts with a Micro POG.
Having said that, I've tried almost everything on the market for this purpose (octave up, preferably polyphonic) and the
POGs simply have worked/sounded the best. Admitedly I hadn't yet heard of his pedal, but he asked if he had made the right "choice". I was simply trying to give him his possibly best "choice" given the objective.
But he was snooty in his response (not even towards just me).
It matters not to me if he buys a POG.

If you consider it "snotty" to state that you can't use the advise since that is not what you are going for but thanking people for taking time suggesting it, it is obvious you who got an problem and not me.
How would people be able to help me if I can't specify what I am looking for without being considered "snotty"?
I might have used the term "if I made the right choice" in my post, but reading it it would be clear that what I really wanted to know was if the pedal I already ordered and was awaiting in the mail would be suitable for what I had in mind.
Had it not been suited, which it turned out in fact to be, then I think it would have been in place to suggest better suited pedals, but just ignoring my question and spam information about another product not asked about I consider "snotty", whatever that is supposed to mean.
Just suggesting another pedal than the one I was asking about is as good as telling me to return a perfectly suited pedal to buy another product, just for the sake of someone happening to like that better.
What you did is kind of like if someone had asked about advise on how to level the frets on their bass and me going in suggesting them just to buy a new bass.

I've tried a bunch of octave up pedals going into distortion for the Royal Blood sound.
The Ricochet does a great job, tracks well and handles chords. It has another trick up its sleeve though, after you turn the pedal on, flick it into momentary mode and you can do Whammy style divebombs and flutters via the footswitch. Something that the RB guy Mike Kerr uses a separate Boss pitch shifter to pull off.
I then added a Bass Whammy to that to mess around with +5th on top and the ability to sweep that to -4th, +6th, +Oct, etc. Sounded great too, but found playing actual power chords on the bass came out better.
I've now though ditched the Ricochet in favour of the Mooer Tender Octave (Mk1, I've not tried the Mk2 which does sound a bit different). It responds a tiny bit quicker and sounds a bit brighter and sounds better going into distortion. It's very close to the POG2 that Royal Blood use as a base octave up!

I'm not going to hunt it down now but I did see a comparison video of the Tender vs a few of the various POGs. The POG2 sounded slightly better than the other POGs probably due to the tone control removing some of the harsher digital artifacts. The Tender sounded exactly like the POG2, but with the added benefits of being tiny and cheaper! Rumour is it was a reverse engineered clone hence why it was removed from sale when EHX kicked up a fuss, and they had to rework it for Mk2.
There's exactly one person who can tell you if your new pedal will do what you want: you.
Wait until you get it, plug it in, and see if it performs as you hope.
You have a sound in your head, a specific touch in your hands, and a selection of gear at your disposal. How all that adds up is completely unpredictable to anyone reading your post.
Any up octave pedal with a distortion may work, depending on everything else at your disposal, including your personal technique.
I get what your saying man but he was asking if what he had already purchased would do what he wanted which was "will it do an octave up with mild overdrive and do chords and it will... I went off into typing land and confused it myself but it's all good man no hating here.

I tried hunting an mk1 down when I first started messing around with this type setup and coudnt find one and ended up with sub n up and dialed out the digital artifact with the tone print editor. I set the Sub 2 knob to set the frequency roll off gain. Was pretty cool..All the way left signal was warmer good for classic rock tones and boost to noon for royal blood RATM tones..Sall gone now and have a Helix LT..As you know the pitchshifting isn't perfect haha but works for now till they release better pitch shifting effects.
I just tested the unit, and it seems to work fairly well.
I don't really mind the latency that admittedly is notable, but nothing too bad when mixed with the bass signal via my Boss LS-2.
I noticed that it sometimes glitches though, some times making a slightly hacking or even envelope filter like sound, it seems rather random on not on any particular notes like on very low notes or any thing like that, I even applied an EQ in front of it cutting the highest frequencies in order not to feed it with fret and slide noises that might confuse it, as I read this ought to get it to track better.
It's not often it does it, just every now and then and nothing too notable.
But is this something that this unit will do in your experience, and just something you'll have to live with if you use it, or would this likely be caused by some defect on my specific pedal?
Specifying what kind of information you are looking for in order to increase the chances that someone will actually be able help you is not an expression of animosity, not in my book at least, you might have some rather different and odd ideas about that in your own though, just don't go about applying them to me.
A compressor before going into octave pedals can improve tracking not sure I've heard an eq going into one would help tracking.. In my setup I use eq and lpf to cut digital artifact sound and high frequencies and place them after octave.
Actually after all the fuzz I made about people suggesting other pedals I've come to the conclusion that I am not really satisfied with what the Ricochet delivers.
Might be that my unit is faulty, but ever now and then I get random glitches chopping up a note slightly or adding an envelope filter like effect to it, also the latency could have been better.
I went through the trouble and did some YouTube surfing (like I probably should have done to start with) on the EHX Micro Pog and TC Electronic Sub'N'Up, and from what I heard it seems like tracking on both these units are better and the latency seems to be slightly lower as well.
From what I've heard I think I came to the conclusion of sending back my Digitech Ricochet (there's a 30 days money back guarantee if you regret buying) and get a Sub'N'Up instead, which is only slightly more expensive.
The reason why I chose the Sub'N'Up over the Micro Pog isn't the price though, I just liked the more natural sounding octave up of the Sub'N'Up compared to the Micro Pog's slightly more synthy or organ like sort of shimmering octave up sound.
@Seanbassplayer Just to be sure before I buy this time, can you confirm that the Sub'N'Up has relatively short latency and that it tracks flawlessly, like was my impression of it from the demos I watched?

I get stunned listeners (especially bassists) wondering how I'm getting such realistic guitar/guitar chords/

I realize that pitching up a bass alone will always sound somewhat artificial and not like a real guitar, but as far as I can hear from the demos the Sub'N'Up has a less synthy or organ like character, like a cleaner pitched up signal, compared to the POG which I think it is fair to say has a slightly organ or synth like character to it, which of course can be cool in it self if that is what you are looking for in an octaver.
Even if I want a totally clean guitar or 8/12 string bass tone,
I always run just some slight chorus on the octave.
This alone does wonders to take away the artificial tone and makes it much more realistic.
I also leave the chorus even if I'm using distortion on it.
I also run my (always on) compressor before the octave (or any other) pedal.
My SnU sounds very synthy in the Up octave. But I've only opened the TP editor - the complexity of it overwhelmed me, so I just closed it.
Others with a greater handle on it have had success with tweaking the pedal through the editor.
