Digitech Whammy IV

Hi guys,
I just bought a used Digitech Whammy IV & love it. I am a little curious though as it's a little different from one I've been borrowing from a friend. Mine is shinny, bright red paint & my friends is a deeper red & more of a mat finish. They also sound a little different. The shinny one sounds a little brighter & the low end doesn't seem quite as tight. Any of you have any insight? The pedal works perfectly, has had very little use & is calibrated.

you may have a more recent version than your friend has and digitech has recently fixed up the whammy to look nicer

Awesome pedal. dont know about new versions of the IV. I do know however that mine periodically shuts off. sometimes 3-5 times in one rehearsal. i have to unplug and plug it back in to kick start it. Anyone have this problem, it is so annoying!

never had any probs with mine : in the 8 years I have had mine it has performed seamlessly.u gotta watch how much level you put through it though.

Are you sure you're friend has a whammy 4? Sounds like an xp-100 to me, was the treadle on the right side and did it have an LCD display and 2 big buttons?

Our guitar player has a shiny whammy and mine is a matt finish.
His is made in Taiwan.
Mine is made in China.
I have not compared the sound yet, but I will tomorrow at practice.

Yes, they are both the Whammy IV. I can't read on the bottom where either are made as there is velcro on both. Both of the wall-warts are the same brand but have different ratings.
His says:
input: 120V-60Hz 18W
output: 9V-1.3A
mine says:
input: 120V-60Hz 34W
output: 9V-2.1A

Here are some pics. Mine is on the left & his on the right.

I know it's hard to tell but mine is smooth & shiny & his is textured & more dull, deep red.

I just bought a used Whammy 4, and I had a matte and shiny to choose between. I tried both out, and went with the shiny model. It looked a little less beat up. I couldn't tell a difference in sound quality.

Anyway, it's already an essential part of my pedal board, and replaced my chorus. Being able to adjust the depth of the 'detune' function on the fly sounds like what I've been searching for all my life.
