DigiTech Whammy Mods?

Another question:

Do your adjusted pitches stay when you turn the pedal off, or do you have to readjust every time you turn it on?

And I think a hardwired switch OPTION would be good - the whammy has plenty of settings, and it for most whammy using bassists, the 5th/Ove setting is the one that they really miss. A hardwired switch would certainly make finding that favourite setting much easier.

I don't have any low end signal loss on my WH4 and never experienced it on one's I've tried.

The only problem the WH4, and all whammies for that matter(with the exception of the bass whammy where it is less so), have is that they don't track the low notes and chords very well. The distinctive "warble" shows up from time to time. But if you factor in reality, IE: a band setting, it is not noticeable until you start hitting the upper range chords.

The is also the slight delay in sound, this is very, very, very slight and I only notice it when I'm going clean with no other effects after (the whammy works best first in line).

However both of these points are due to the fact of the pedal being digital and AFAIK, can't be solved.

you guys are an awesome company, I will definitely send out a whammy pedal as soon as i get one. One question though, can these mods be done to an older version digitech whammy? guitarist friend of mine has one laying around in his house that he said i could have (he has to check on which model it is next time hes home)

I wonder if it'd be possible to have the pitch limiter switches built into the pots, using a pot like the ones used for push-pull tone pots. One setting would bypass the limiter, the other would engage it at wherever the pot already is. This seems like it'd be pretty basic, would it increase the price?

I'd like to echo the rest of the people in the thread though, these mods are amazing, I can't believe someone didn't think of this years ago.

The point of a low profile heavy duty toggle switch as a preset control is to avoid the possibility of the pot getting accidentally moved while you are setting up or playing. We think moving this function to a rotary control would defeat the purpose, otherwise you could just use the Lower Pitch Limiter Control.

Another possibility would be to have the preset(s) activated by footswitch only. Then you could have your 5th>Octave setting on a footswitch and not have to bend over to get there.

There have also been a lot of questions about mods to older Whammys and Bass Whammys. We haven't opened any up yet, so we can't say whether similar mods would be possible. We are a bit reluctant to hack the Bass Whammy or the WH-1 just because they are collector's items. The Whammy 4 is only $200 brand new, so even with a couple of our mods you are still paying way way less than a Bass Whammy, and you have a brand new pedal.

We thought more about the push pull pot and it sounds like a great idea. However, we checked the Whammy enclosure and it really doesn't look like the clearance is there. We ordered the smallest ones we could find, but highly doubt they will fit.

Assuming they don't, the entire Pitch Limiter Control system with push pull pots could be moved to another pedal, but that would make it more expensive. Would it be worth it or does it make more sense to use sturdy little mini toggle switches on the enclosure like in the photo?

Keep in mind that the footprint of the system would get bigger because a bigger box would be needed to fit push pull pots and the other bypass switches.

This thread is a mess of CUP problems. I trimmed it up by request, sorry if I killed anything super critical to this discussion. This should not be a 'mods for sale' thread. If it goes back that direction, I'll have to shut it down.

We are trying to find out what mods people want and the best interface for them. The thread question was what mods are out there. Our answer is "what do you want" because we have figured out all sorts of Whammy 4 mods.

If this is a problem, we apologize. We are simply trying to give bass players what they want and the only way to figure that out is to have a discussion like this.

As a result of all the terrific feedback, we have added a whole lot of functions that were thought up by your members. This seems like a win-win, but if you don't want this type of discussion on the talkbass forum, just let us know.

I must say, this is the most thoughtful and creative musician's forum on the web.

I didn't delete the thread, I just cleaned up the bits that got pointed out as being over the line. I LOVE having innovative people and craftsmen interfacing and making better things. When it moves to advertising, the ownership of talkbass has a vested interest in controlling what occurs. This line gets a little murky here in effects (because of the low cost of entry into the business, compared to other arenas).

Please take a moment to read the CUP and make sure you properly identify yourself as a employee/owner of a music related business.

Thanks for being part of what makes TB great.
