DigiTech Whammy Mods?

To answer your question, no we do not currently modify the WH-1.

Regarding the Molten MIDI, it's important to note that it does not change the limits of Whammy's expression pedal like the mods do. Instead, pressing the button sets a "virtual" position on the expression pedal. It stays in that "virtual" position until you move the expression pedal which will then override the virtual position.

When using one of the sequenced modes, like the arpeggiator [Mode 8], Molten MIDI continually sends a signal which continually overrides the expression pedal (although if you move the pedal quickly you can hear pitch changes in between the arpeggiated notes).

When using Mode 1, which steps you sequentially through Whammy's internal settings, Molten MIDI sets the expression pedal to the "toe up" position.

Just so its clear, you don't need to modify your Whammy 4 to use Molten MIDI, but using Molten MIDI is different than installing Molten Voltage's Pitch Limiter Control mods which actually limit the range of the expression pedal.

As far as mods go wouldnt you at least need to get a jack installed to use the molten midi, or does it jsut use the input jack?
And i assume when you say using the expression pedal over rides the virtual setting, this doesnt apply if you were in one of the bass whammy modes, i assume it would just function as if it were a regular mode on the whammy?

The Whammy 4 has a MIDI In jack just above the guitar input. Molten MIDI connects directly to that without any modification to the Whammy 4. We can actually program custom chips so it works with any MIDI device (e.g. Line 6 Flextone III amps).

Is it probably easier to answer your other question with an example. When you set Molten MIDI to setting 2, the 5th Up>Octave Up Harmony, pressing the button puts you in the Octave Down>Octave Up harmony setting and sets the "virtual" position of the expression pedal so you hear a 5th Harmony. Pressing the button again, sets the "virtual" position to the "toe down" position so you hear the octave harmony.

Once you move the expression pedal, it overrides the "virtual" position set by Molten MIDI and the range of the expression pedal will not be limited. In other words, the range of the expression pedal remains Octave Down > Octave Up.

If you want to limit the range of the expression pedal, then you need to have us modify your Whammy 4 with the Pitch Limiter Controls.

With Molten MIDI, you can alternate between the 5th Up and Octave Up harmonies by pressing the button, you just won't hear the pitch "slide" up and down like you do with the expression pedal.

Molten Voltage also programs custom chips so you can choose the settings you like or invent your own.

Please let us know if anything is still unclear. Thanks for your feedback!

Sounds crazy, but the biggest Mod I'd seriously love to have on my Whammy is it running on 9 Volts DC instead of AC!!! Makes powering the whole board a lot less straightforward with different power supplies (or more expensive/heavy ones).

For the rest I'm really happy with the Whammy IV, though am still 'very' tempted by the other Mods on Molten Voltage's site!;) Love the coloured L.E.D.'s!

Hi everyone,

Latest update:

Molten Voltage has just released to totally new version of Molten MIDI that is Programmable, has Tap Tempo control, and can make the Digitech Whammy 4 do all sorts of new tricks - and it costs less than the original.

Check out the Molten MIDI 2 video and lots of other information here:
http://www.moltenvoltage.com/molten_midi_2.html

If you use the computer-based programmer, you can even share files with other users. It can also be programmed manually and stores 15 programs at a time.

To answer the previous question, we can order you a Whammy and mod it so you don't need to ship it to us. Right now we can get them for $185, but that could change. Send us an email if you have any questions.

Thanks! :bassist:
