Dimarzio Area J - weak E strings

Hey guys,

I did a search and really couldn't find the info I was looking for. I just have some Area J's installed on my Jazz. I love the tone but the E string is pretty weak especially compared to the A and D with their raised poles.

An old school buddy of mine mentioned that sometimes you can raise the individual poles. Has anyone tried this and, if so, did it help? Thanks.

You can't raise the poles on Area J's, but you can on the regular Model J (notice is has hex pole pieces).

Maybe check your saddle height on the E string. Lower it and raise the others a bit.

are you sure you're not just used to flat jazz pickups and the way they make the E and G too loud compared to the rest?

is the 5th-fret E really weaker than the open A, or are they just finally balanced?

Hey walter, I got it figured out. I didn't have the pickups raised enough. Once I did and got it into the sweet spot it sung like a canary. Thanks.

nice.

the areas have alnico II magnets, so not a lot of string pull. you can cheat them closer than regular jazz pickups (as long as the strings don't hit them).
