Dimarzio ultra jazz low output

I have a set of ultra jazz that I have always been underwhelmed by. According to dimarzios website they should have more output than the modelP that I have but they do not. I have them wired as suggested by dimarzio.

Thoughts?

Are the coils wired in series, with the pickups parallel, with 250k or 500k pots? If there is a preamp with adjustable gain, is the gain at unity or above?

They are wired just as dimarzio suggests. Whether I wire them passive or use a preamp they just don't seem to be as hot as everyone says

I know what you mean. I just took them out about an hour ago.
I had them for about 7 months and they gave me nothing but trouble every step of the way:
-The output for the D and G strings was considerably lower than that for the E and A strings.
-The poles buzzed every time I came near them, even after I put electrical tape over them.
-The pickups themselves hummed (stopped only by touching a metal part of the bass) even after I shielded them.
-The overall tone wasn't that great.
