Remember, by swapping the bridge and middle leads you can get:
neck
neck middle
middle bridge
middle
Since my SJ5XXX has the 3 series/parallel switches there are lots of flavors available.

This may be a good option for some to try. I switched the bridge and neck leads and got:
Bridge (solo)
Bridge/Neck Parallel
Neck/Middle Series
Neck (solo)
I found the neck/middle series to be too deep in the really low region, though it didn't lack much up top. It also had the associated hotter signal but seemed even more exaggerated since the strings have more movement in that region.

I always figured if you bought one of those you should also buy a handful of those extra button/switches for when they fail and/or when they stop making that model.
I have a Mono 80 Double and two ABI fivers fit no problemo. I'm sure this is true of most others as well.
Speaking of cases, in case you haven't seen the new Gator ProGo case, it is the most plush and feature rich gig bag I have seen. I saw them this past weekend and immediately bought two of them. The longscales fit PERFECTLY in there, and it is as plush as can be. They look sooo comfy in there! There is a built-in rain cover, and the outer pocket is voluminous, with a padded space for a tablet, some cool velcro straps for keeping cables under control, etc. etc. It has VERY thick padding all the way around the instrument, and is very stiff overall. I was previously in love with the Protec Contego, but now my gig bag of choice for the Dingwalls is the Gator ProGo. The only thing it is missing is a nice script "D" on the outside pocket.
I had the benefit of buying it after seeing it in person at the Bass Expo in Philly.
I just checked on sweetwater.com, and I agree with all the reviews posted there.

The Gator ProGo that @xnewyorka mentioned above will def fit the DBird. I have one and it's a great bag. I also have a Mono Vertigo and the DBird will fit in it, but it's kinda tight. I've been very happy with the Gator ProGo, just wish it would accept the Mono Tick accessory.I'm more concerned with the shape of the D-Bird...
It's not a huge deal. I was just wondering what some of you guys who have D-Birds are doing, as far as transporting it with other basses.
Edit: forgot to add, they make the ProGo in a double bag, but I haven't tried the DBird in it.
So, I decided to look at experimenting with the D Bird's pickup wiring. I had one, out of four sounds, that I was truly in love with, I thought maybe I could do better.
Looks like I've got plenty of room to work.
Looks can be deceiving, but there actually is plenty room.
Since all the pickup wiring goes to screw terminals on the 4 position rotary switch, every thing is easily accessible, and no need to solder since it's all on the switch. Very clean wiring job, btw.
Basically, I just swapped the wiring to the switch of the bridge and neck pickups. I have no idea electronically how I affected the series/parallel wiring in the different pickup combinations, since I'm not sure how the switch "switches". I can just comment on the sound of the before and after.
Position 1
Before: bridge pickup-sounded good in a nasally way, fuller than a jazz, but still, not a sound I'd use much
After: neck pickup-nice, crisp P sound with good low end, huge improvement, IMO
Position 2
Before: bridge/middle in series-MM sounding, decent lows, very bright with a lot of mid scoop
After: neck/middle-still very MM sounding, but fuller lows, less mid scoop and not as brittle on the high end
Position 3
Before: middle only, my favorite setting, P sound with extra large balls and pronounced mids
After: unchanged, see above
Position 4
Before: bridge/middle in series, parallel with neck. Very loud and thick, with some top end
After: neck/middle/bridge. Still loud and thick, but with more top end. I would probably use this setting with the tone backed off for a thumpy, flat wound sound
I'll have to try this wiring on a few gigs to be sure, but I think I dig it. This bass had one sound I really, really liked, and three sounds that were probably more useful to someone other than myself. Now I have two sounds I love, and the other two sounds that are more useful than before. Bear in mind, I'm primarily a finger player, and all the pup selections sound quite different with a pick. The nice thing is, it's a totally reversible mod.

Ok, I asked this question in a couple of other places, so I'm asking you guys as well...
Here's a question I pose to you guys, are you guys more inclined to buy gear that you have to wait for as a general rule, or just for specific things? I seem to be more inclined as a general rule. In addition to Barefaced cabs(I'm waiting on my 2nd BTII), I'm currently playing Kiesel Vader basses(I waited about 8-12 weeks for each one), I just put a deposit on four Dingwalls(3 Canadian, 1 import-gonna be around 18 months), I've got an FEA Labs compressor that I waited a year for, I've bought stuff from Iron Ether, Cog Effects, Arkham Sound, Broughton, and LDS that I've had to wait on. It's all been phenomenal stuff, but some of it I still have and some I don't. I'm gonna ask in some other threads as well. I'm just curious about the mindset when it comes to the gear we buy...

Yeah, we all know it's the hardest part, but why do we do it? We could probably just buy Fender's and Ampeg's and get what we need, but we choose to go a different route that requires a lot more patience and faith...I'm just really curious.
Sure, if by need you mean a functioning bass and amp. But I don't get much of what I want from a good bass when I pick up a typical, off-the-rack Fender. Sure, it makes bass sounds, but I'd probably cry trying to get through a gig with a typical wet-noodle, thuddy Fender B string.

Because sometimes Fenders and Ampegs (not that there’s anything necessarily wrong with either one) don’t cut it. I’m quite happy to wait for sumpin’ special. But I’ll try to find it used first to save some time and money.
I agree with ya'. So, does that translate to your other gear choices? Are you willing to wait for an amp/pedal/cab as well? I guess that's my actual question...

I am. Lately, all of the stuff that I’m interested in is not available in any of the Brick and Mortars near me.
I think this is what I was looking for. You sound like me, I'm perfectly ok waiting for something I want, but if I find that thing preowned or on sale, I'll go that route.
To answer your question I think. I don't prefer to wait for ANYTHING but.... In the short term Id settle on some stuff rather then wait but I'm willing to wait for the right stuff no question>>>>>>At 12 months now for my fretless!
I did look for temporary options in the meantime but didn't find the right one so I'm still waiting. That said now that I'm starting the pedal rabbit hole I just grabbed a couple that were on sale as I narrow down what I actually want and will be willing to wait for THAT/IT once I know what THAT/IT is. Same for amps, cabs and basses. Right now I have a surplus of awesomeness of everything besides pedals so I can definitely wait on that stuff....meanwhile always perusing the classifieds to exercise practice in will power.
