I've been playing a 4 string Dingwall as my #1 for the past 10 years, so having one that I could dedicate to BEAD tuning would be AWESOME.
Seems like Combustion/NG pricing has also gone up. I also noticed the estimate for delivery is Sept 2026.
I’m really curious if the five string of that will be standard BEADG or EADGC, and if BEADG will the E still be 37”, necessitating an even longer B?
My guess is the 5 string will be the usual 34-37 multiscale. So the result would be a cooler looking (IMO) Combustion.
I imagine it’d be the standard 37-34” and possibly tuned F#-D. I’d have hard time believing they’d make the first “extra super long scale” just for a limited run AND still be a realistic price…
But could you imagine a 40” F#???????

I've seen a couple basses over the years with 39 or 40" scale.

The luthier used to be known as 'Knuckle Guitar Works' but has combined his various projects into 'Kalium Music'. The original Quake basses were fully custom and far more expensive.
The longer scale allows thinner strings for a particular tension, however also, a longer string is inherently more flexible. The combined result is that a string has the flexibility and clarity of the next higher string on a normal bass, so a B has the clarity of a 34" E, F# has the clarity of a 34" B etc.
Half of the extra length is acheived through shifting the...

Thanks @IvanBassist ! That's the first masterbuild that didn't immediately invoke GAS heavily haha. Still a looker, of course. Hoping to hear some hands on thoughts about the Umansky sig especially if it can be directly A/B'd to a proper Z.
The Umansky was pretty dope. I really dug the finish in person. The neck kinda tripped me out, it felt like there was less meat on it compared to my 6 string maple/wenge Z neck. I know it's not not an apples to apples comparison, just wasn't expecting it to be that slim. The Padalkas were absolutely beautiful.

Like I said it's not apples to apples, I couldn't grab the sklar at the same time to really compare- but yeah it felt really slim. It may have just been a prototype as well, I think they aren't supposed to hit stores for a bit so there may be refinements. I honestly have no idea.Less meat on the neck than a Z!?
