Dingwall Owners Club

You know me. I have this 'thing' in mind. Should I be able to swing it, I'll need to have a conversation with Sheldon, because he would have to be complicit in the idea. Something eye catching, certainly.
I don't think this town could handle another bass on par with Rastabass.

I'm perfectly content with the ABZ6, but a XXX would be swell, and somedays I just want a 4. The only bass I've played in the last few months that wasn't my ABZ is my Bass VI.

Well, it would be completely and utterly different in a visual sense. Although I'd like to entertain the thought of the 3x pickup setup. Although I may be interested in being able to use the front/middle, front/bridge and middle/bridge combinations.

And we still need to get together. I'm without my Monique for a while, but other than that...

Definitely, maybe over break? It's about the only free time I'll have for the next month and a half, as the week after break, the musical has sitzprobe, and then we go into rehearsals every night mode.

My end goal with the combustion is to have three pick ups, and be able to do

Neck
Neck/Middle
Middle
Neck/Middle/Bridge
Middle/Bridge

All series connections.

That works for me. I'm outta town this weekend doing family stuff again, but I'll be around during the week and besides our Tuesday night rehearsal, I'm free I think. Trying to remember who else...there's another guy or two that wanted to drop by.

Dingwall Ladies (if any) and Gentlemen (if any), I am a P lover, and have decided to take the Dingwall plunge, the string - to - string tension and light weight being the main reasons, plus I've tried most everything else and want to tick this one off the list.

I'm mainly trying to get in around the 8 lbs weight class. I have a wonderful P5, so I've got the gig bass covered. And I have a beautiful Signature Buckeye Burl Roscoe SKB 3005, so I have the foo - foo thing covered. I'm just looking for a light workhorse bass for those marathon practices.. So it doesn't specifically have to be a Super P, just super light. I thought I read that the ABZs also have a P in a Soapbar PUP? So if I get an ABZ5 and decide to use it for the Country band I could drop one in if the stock PUP doesn't get me close enough. Or should I just hold out for a Super P5?

Your thoughts and expertise is appreciated.

You can always order a SuperJ with a Swamp Ash body. That's what the ABZ is made from. It should be as light, if not more. I don't know how it would affect the tone, but that is a listed option.

In addition, you could ask to have any pickup put pretty much anywhere, as long as pickup shells match. People have been going wild in the last couple of years, and I fully support that :) Anyway, there exists a P pickup in a soapbar shell that you could order in an ABZ. You can also put the same soapbar P in a Invalid Link Removed, or put all three of them.

I have an ABZ5 with a P-pup at the neck. Under 8 pounds! Meets my P-bass sound needs! One of the primary decisions you will need to make is whether to go with the longer scale (ABZ) or the SP5. Either way, you will start smiling in short order!

Well, I am biased since I have a sweet, uber light ABZ for sale:D, but I'd go for a long scale Dinger since you already have a P5. The Dingwall "effect" is more pronounced at longer scale IMHE......you may rethink which bass you gig with;)

Gotta admit back in the day, the rasta bass really opened my mind up to the dingwall concept. And a couple times I thought about ordering that exact finish on a dingwall. That bass should be a hall of fame in a case at dingwall!

Thanks, Sheldon did a wonderful job on my bass. I don't know that you would have any luck in getting Dingwall to reproduce that finish though. There can be only one.
