Dingwall Owners Club

The black is practical, but doesn't look sinister enough for such a vibrant, over the top instrument. I really think the red, yellow and green express the character of the NG much better.

I don't think the maple fingerboard complements the yellow body, so for my taste, the green or the red would be the way to go out of the standard finishes.

If money were no object, my pick would be yellow with an ebony fingerboard, or yellow with a Wenge neck and fingerboard. Are those options even available?

I'm not very good at waiting for things. I'd grab the black one. Or the green one. But I do love the yellow best of all. I'd wait four months for a chrome blue. (I know it's not an option) Tough call!

In a year, when hundreds of the Nolly's have been delivered, the used market might yield trade options.

I've only bought pre owned Dingwalls, so the only considerations were the model, and the price and what was available at the time. I don't have one regret. My six string AB-1 was a total impulse buy, and it has become my main squeeze. I kind of like the "luck of the draw" aspect. I still prowl the classifieds, ebay, and craigslist just about every day.

I could understand holding the line and getting the one you ordered.

It's good to hear from the Zoom-man again. Your "playing my butt off" comment reminded me of the "King of the Hill" episode involving prosthetic buttocks.

JGR continues to craft way-cool audio devices. His amp with the custom inductors in the preamp is the coolest development I've seen of late...

Still no GAS induced in me - the Reeves and Shaw amps driving MAS cabs are quite eargasmic.

Unfortunately not, the yellow prototype with the wenge/ebony board is definitely my favorite edgier look as well...

I have been crazy busy, both on and off the bass.

Not familiar with the other stuff but I am familiar with Reeves. That was my second choice behind Jonathans 6sl7.

That said, the SJ5 and Sp5 make the tone awfully easy to like!

This Dingwall whiplash is killing me. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

You're playing a Ding and you kind of get stuck on it. Before you know it, you've camped the thing for like 7-8 weeks.

Then you spy Dingwall 2 and the guilt sets in that you haven't played it in what seems like forever. So you commit to taking it to next rehearsal and gig. Then you fall in love all over again. And the next thing you know, you've camped Dingwall #2 for weeks.

It's a vicious cycle and not for the feint of heart!

I just play mine in rotation. The MAS (Michael Arnopol Sound) cabs are based on BigE technology. Kevin Shaw is from your neck of the woods (Nashville) and is more well known for his all-tube guitar amps. Fairly recently, he began building what is in essence a 150 watt B-15 with a couple of nifty 'bells' not included in the old Ampegs. It's killer.

I was ok with 2 Dingwalls. A Super P/J 5 and a fretless Super P5. Clear distinction between sound and purpose.

And then THE Prima Artist happened and it all went out the door. 3 Dingwalls is going to be confusing! Everyday bass, fretless, Sunday best bass?

1 day away from (what I think) is the nicest bass ever built by Sheldon Dingwall.... Any guesses?

Tell you what. @lomo is selling a sick ABZ! If I wasnt already invested in and still waiting on a combustion, I would snatch it up.

You know me. I have this 'thing' in mind. Should I be able to swing it, I'll need to have a conversation with Sheldon, because he would have to be complicit in the idea. Something eye catching, certainly.

And this is exactly why I am trying to avoid the 37s.
