direct recording with a G-K

Can I direct record with any GK head without a speaker ? I don't own one so this does not pertain to a specific model

Yes, I've done a few recording sessions (w/good gear) using the DI from a 400RB ('91 vintage) and 800RB ('87 vintage) with good results.

I have not had a noisy DI from a G-K yet. It is possible with anyone's DI though.

I was using a cab (Genz Benz Focus 115) but these songs were recorded using the the pre-EQ DI from my GK MB200. Cab or not, makes no difference. Bass is a Squier VM 70's Jazz. Click the "Bandpage" link.
