Discontinued Amps

I'd love to get my filthy little mitts on some old Sunn amps. Fender-affiliated or otherwise.

A while back I got a used Eden WTX 500 because the price was too good to pass up. Up until now it's worked fine - no problems. When the amp genie finally rides the blue smoke home, I'll use it as a doorstop or a paperweight. That's my only used amp because, as has been said by others, there are so many quality new amps that are as affordable (or more so) than used.

To be honest, whether an amp is still in production or not is not high on the list of determining factors for me when deciding to buy. Serviceability matters a great deal of course, just because an amp is out of production doesn't mean it can't be worked on by a qualified tech. And specific to the topic of this thread, yes, I would always prefer a mint condition amp over one that was in less than mint condition.

Many of.the amps I own were purchased used. my Walter Woods Electroacoustic Ultra, my B/15N(C), my Monique M700, and my MAS 4x5.5.
All are in good working order all we’re purchaser at least 5 years ago, in the case of the B/15 in 1974, the Woods ultra in Monique M700 2007.

All my bass amps are in mint condition, purchased second hand and were built in the late 80s early 90s.
The guy who made them, still makes them and has parts, will gladly service them BUT he lives on the east coast of Australia and I live on the west coast of Australia, some 3-4 thousand kms away.

Both my heads a discontinued and the manufacturers are defunct, but they are the best sounding amps I've played through. My Eden WT400 and A.M.P. Series 220.
Hold onto your Eden WT400. When the Eden forum was still alive we used to get people looking for them all the time. When we'd get one in the classified, if rarely stayed up for more than 2 days. Then all the comments about, "I had one and sold it...wish I had it back". Among Edenites it's considered to possibly be the best sounding amp Eden ever made. If you do decide to sell it, don't let it got cheap.

Here is a question: Would you get a mint condition discontinued Amp, like a MarBass F1, Genz Benz Shuttle and many other amps?
I bought a used Eden WT500 that had been upgraded to 800-watts rms bridged into 8Ω from its previous 500-watts. Bought it in 2010 form David Nordschow (founder of Eden) when he left Eden to start DNA. It was the cab testing amp he used for designing Eden cabs from 1999 until 2009 when he left.

I knew it would sound good because it was his and I knew it was in good shape because he went through it before he sold it. And it is a freaking great amp. Its only drawback is that it weighs ~36-lbs. in its rack. I finally broke down in 2021 and bought one of his class D amps, the DNA-800, which is 800-watts into either 4Ω or 2Ω. But that's a new amp.

I seem to be more likely to buy a new amp than a used amp though as I've bought 5 amps since ~2006 and and only two of those were used (both Eden amps).

I have a favorite discontinued amp, featureful (more than I need), quality build, plenty of watts, but so uncool that I get them for a song on the used market.

I recently bought two, used from G.C., 400w and 750w for under $200 each. :) If you're not impressed, that's cool, cheaper for me. :D
