Discussion on Fender Jazz MIJ

So I was poking around on ebay and saw something that caught my eye. It was a MIJ 75PJ. I am guessing that this is a 75 RI PJ. Most of the MIJ / CIJ basses that I have had a chance to pick up seem nice, but seem too have much more lacquer on the back of the neck for my taste. But this bass poked my curiosity. I like the idea of Fender PJs, but have yet to hear one that I had to have. This one deserves a closer look though.

Dose anyone know if any MIJ basses have the satin finish on the back of the neck?

Well I have the Geddy so yes I got a sig model. I guess mine is not the satin? Seems more gloss on the back of the neck. Of course only basses that I have ever owned were either gloss, natural wood or painted finishes. So not quite sure what the satin would feel like.

So the American standards have a satin finish on the back of the neck. It's not a big deal to most, but the satin feel is just something I have grown to love. Of course one can always take sandpaper to the back of the neck, but I guess I would rather learn to live with the gloss.

I had a Geddy Lee many years ago, it had a gloss neck but it wasn't sticky. It's not TOO hard of a job to take the gloss finish off and re-oil the back if you are feeling adventurous. There are many threads from people who have done this on TB.

I bought a 62/US RI Jazz from Ishibashi in Japan and it does have the shiny, gloss neck.

I know the MIJ Jags are gloss on the neck. I prefer the lighter satin feel of the MIAs, but the gloss isn't a problem. I wonder if your hands perspire if it'd be somewhat icky if that's a word.

Sweet! What were your overall impressions of the 75PJ? How did you like the build quality? Did it take a while to get what you ordered?

Its funny that the U.S. doesn't have the same basses, but I guess it makes sense.

I got it about 3 days after I ordered it. Ishibashi is famously fast with shipping. It was an awesome bass, very well built.
