Disgusted With Massachusetts Music Stores

I LOVE GC in the Metro Boston area- their used gear deals can be phenomenal! I would never buy a new bass or amp at GC. I go there for strings or to stalk the used stuff.
Daddys had lots of high end stuff in the 80s and 90s- but they seem to have made a decision to stick to mostly low end guitars and basses around the turn of the millennium.
There is a (people will groan at this) Music Go Round I just discovered on route 9 in Natick-with some very interesting used gear and what seem to be good prices.
Just for the record, if you are in Boston you can always go to Chinatown and hop a bus to Manhattan and then spend the day shopping on West 48th st-I found my Ken Smith there 15 years ago in 48th street custom shop. And theres NOTHING like the experience you will get simply walking into Sam Ash on W. 48...the salesdude actually said "Welcome to Sam Ash- are you BUYING anything today??"
Boston Guitar Works used to be on Huntington Ave and had much higher end bass stuff like 10 years ago...times have changed, Squier is king.

Drive an hour/hour and a half south to New Haven and go to GGuitars. It's worth the drive if they have what you want to try there.

Man let me know when your on the road so I can stay indoors if you can get from Boston to New Haven in 1.5 hours. But other than that GGuitars is great, has some cool basses and some cool amps and a bunch of pedals.

Boston Music Works, is hit or miss.
If the owner Heath is there he will deal.

A hidden jewel, in Ma. is Scitiate Music, Jerry is a trip.

So I'm from the center of CT and just checked out GGuitars. They have some really awesome, higher-end stuff there. In fact, it made me feel very poor haha. The guys were really cool too. As soon as my buddy and I walked in, they told us to grab whatever we wanted and start playing. Definitely worth checking out.

Furthermore, I bought a (new) Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 for over half off at the Sam Ash in New Haven. Great day.

Im from springfield and the Daddys Junky Music by Riverdale Road is nice. They have a huge wall of guitars and amps, and the staff is nice. Granted I found my ernie balls on amazon for 16 with shipping and paid 20+ at the store for them. BUT!! its a great store.

theres also a local store by my house which has nice stuff.

Downtown sounds in Northampton is cool.......but being in eastern mass youd think there would be a ton of them. That is kinda depressing.

best of luck finding a good music store.

There's also the Guitar Garage in Somerville . . . or maybe he recently moved to Wobourn or Waltham . . . anyway Krishna has a great collection.

I'd steer clear of Krishna, I got burned out of $400 by him. I'm sure he does great work, but his business practices leave something to be desired.

I'm actually about 1/2 south of Boston. I've made it to New Haven in about 1 hour 45 minutes.

In the Central MA area the only decent place left is Union Music. They stand by their products & service. What's great about them is they will talk, and more importantly, listen.
