Distortion-like fuzz from bass?

Ok im not too sure where this should go. But im running my precision, through an MXR 6 band eq and Ashdown After 8. I have changed the battery twice in the mxr, so thats not the problem, but im getting a strong distortion-like fuzz sound from the amp. Im not sure whether the cables need replacing, or the wiring etc of the amp/bass need changing. Ideas? :help:

Does this still happen if you run the bass directly to the amp? If so, you can at least rule out the MXR box. Try using a different bass, if you can, to find out whether the bass or the amp is the problem. I'd think it's most likely to be the amp - blown speaker, maybe?

Broken cables usually cause crackling noises or outright signal dropouts, whereas a broken speaker can make the signal sound distorted. I'm assuming you've tried adjusting the input gain on the amp already...

My bass is a passive P (G&L SB-1) that distorts the front end of most amps and effects. So you just need to be aware of the max voltage of your effects and amps. If you're boosting too much low end then the pedal could easily distort. The amp too!
