Distortion on bass

49, and can’t keep up on the slang.

I'm 47. I have never heard the word peng used in this context. Peng in Thai means expensive but I was fairly certain that's not what he meant.

Natural overdrive for me, as in the kind that comes from tubes or from simply pushing certain things hard and its usually in place to push a different kind of effect.
I like what some guys do with distortion, fuzz etc but I can't really find a use for it.

I've always thought Ween was the ultimate stoner band. Even though they don't fit the Sabbath blueprint for stoner rock, Ween is definitely stoner rock in my book.

I like a little fuzz on there once in a while, and maybe a little overdrive if a song calls for it. I don't foresee adding distortion to my signal chain but, hey, I'm an ancient geezer.

My ray is strung with hybrid slinky and tuned c std. I run it into b7k> angry troll> tall font Russian> noise gate> spectracomp then into two amps running a 212 and 810 (and sometimes one more amp) with mod pedals I can throw it into some wild feedback and control with wah, I can also get drone moving with airflow over strings. Can get real dark and heavy into the groove and mod the lead over it. Pretty fun, but I can't hear for a week after.

I think I’m going to watch this thread. Because who knows? I just might learn something.

Sometimes the best way to become a better musician is to get outside your box and spend some time getting more familiar with a genre of music you don’t think you’re into.

A lot of people I have talked to are not fans of the genre at all, even ones i've been to gigs to, but everyone loved the gigs, so its more of a genre you listen to live i'd say

I never really got into bass distortion until last fall and don't really have extensive experience. After trying a Digitech BassDriver and MXR Blowtorch, I stayed away from that effect for a long while until getting an MXR Bass Distortion. I use it sparingly and on rather light setting (closer to OD) and it sounds pretty good to my ears !

My distortion pedal is built for g***** but i still think it works well enough, but i guess is person to person

I think most bass lines would sound better with either full-on distortion, fuzz, or some sort of overdrive.

Well, depends what you're going for, a lot of the time if bass is playing the same riff as the g***** does and then the bass riff just gets drowned out (from personal experience) but if the bass is playing something different, it sounds v good

I think just about everybody goes through a phase of heavy sounding music....when they’re a teenager.

Dirty bass and clean guitar playing the same riff sounds cool. But I agree that bass can get drowned out if a dirty bass and dirty guitar play the same riff.
