Distortion pedal dry as a clean boost?

I'm curious if anyone has done this or had any thoughts on it. I have a Boss bass overdrive ODB-3. Pretty typical overdrive stompbox. I realized when I have it engaged but 100% dry with the eq boosted it sounds nice. Kind of slightly warm color with a rounded sound. Subtle but noticable. Anyone try this before?

The ODB3 is an awesome boost, for certain type of sounds anyway. Personally I use it "the clank way" with 0% gain, 20 to 50% blend to add a powerful attack (with pick) before a distortion when i like the texture but have no definition / articulation

Back when my ODB-3 was my only pedal I used it for multiple duties. Overdrive, distortion, clean boost, dirty boost, 2-band EQ.

Versatile little thing that pedal is.

Basically, a distortion pedal is a boost with a gain knob

Sludge guitarists (at least Crowbar's Kirk Windstein and Eyehategod's Jimmy Bower) use Metal Zone as a boost. They have a flat eq and gain at zero and they hit their solid state Randall with that. Kurt Ballou does the same thing. So, that's a thing.
