Distortion

Digitech Deathmetal it is cheap and useful if you have thumbs...

I think the wmd acoustic trauma and geiger counter might be awesome!

Also lastgasp art laboratories deviltail might be a cool way to go.

Or maybe 3Xfx Fatman.

I'm just throwing those out there, I like all the demos I've heard, but I just don't use distortion very much...

'Tis a process, however.

@Swick
UTFSF = use the f'ing search function, if I'm not mistaken.

Context: about 4-9 new threads a week are started asking what the best distortion, overdrive or fuzz pedal is. Multiply that weekly number by 52 and you get a s#!t load of unique (not) threads asking about what the best distortion, overdrive or fuzz pedal is.

It gets kind of old after awhile.

are there any clips of the deviltail or acoustic trauma on bass? or would that be too much to ask for?

See that is the problem :scowl: most bassists don't or won't take a chance on this stuff. Mainly due to price... for the DT I can say that going by the synth test on their sight through it because I have one of their other pedals [a fuzz] that they used the same synth loop with I can make a leap. Meaning if I was to need a distortion of that type I would try that pedal.

The acoustic trauma is still pretty new so I haven't seen anything yet. But it might be worth asking wmd them selves for one or at least what they think about it on bass.

I know I am not being of much help:hiding:

No you were a great help. I have some extra cash so I may buy the Deviltail.

If you're looking for some rarely covered (and some close to unobtanium) pedals reviewed (including some seriously high-gain distortion) check out Kayzer's YouTube channel. He's a death/grind guitar player from Germany. His vids are all guitar-centric, but he's almost always either downtuned or playing a bari. And he has some amazing pedals. Here's a recent distortion shootout he posted:

And he's got tons of other amazing modulation & delay vids as well...

The Searcher never works really well though as all it will give you is a proximally to a ampeg being overdriven, it's like when you ask for a cupcake and you are given a muffin.

Lol not sure if this was a metaphor or not.

I did use the search function. Got a crapload of overdrive and fuzz threads.....

And yeah, it's definitely a self-perpetuating cycle.
Personally, I've been using an EHX Big Muff Pi recently and I'm quite taken with it.

The main problem is, the manufacturers call it an OD or a distortion, and it's a fuzz (mostly). There IS a difference, small, but important. I'm looking for a OD/distortion overlap witch is just hard to find, and that mis-labeling just makes it worse

So my advice is, read through all those threads. You'll find some diamonds by accident, trust me.
(Also, aguilar agro)

If you don't like anything, you can always grab a blender and try out guitar pedals.
(I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say "guitar" here :ninja:)

Just make sure its not the new garbage they decided to disgrace the name with.
