Divinity: Original Sin (video game)

No, this is not a thread about religion.

It's an old school RPG game that's supposed to be reminiscent of Baldur's Gate/Arcanum, but with an updated feature set of character customization & environmental interaction.

While there are classes they are more like templates, & don't pigeonhole you into a progression.

Candles & other burning objects can be used to ignite oil slicks, water barrels can put them out, electricity will travel across water, etc...

I bought it last night & played until 1 AM. The quests are not as straightforward as in some games (I think I spent 1/2 hour last night looking for a shovel) but growing up I played DOS rpgs so I wasnt easily frustrated. Combat is turn based so its slower paced, although I didn't mind many online reviewers dislike it. The scenery is beautiful. Character models are OK, nothing to write home about. The sound/music are also great, although I might be biased since Im listening on a nice pair of headphones.

It is also full of some pretty funny moments - such as when a mayor mis-hears you & tries to explain the birds & the bees...

It also has an online mode that Ive yet to utilize.

I really like this game & it feels like the spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate II. I'd give it a 9/10, could be better quest descriptions & some models, & the inventory system is clunky, but overall it's been highly entertaining.

Can be bought on steam for $40
