DIY (2) 210’s

Hello bass players who cant stop building stuff Lol

I wanna build (2)210 cabs, start with one for now. Now when building hometheater subwoofers, i use high excursion 15” drivers in sealed 2” thick MDF cabinets and a QSC1450 bridged for each…..i have (4) they are nothing shy of amazing.

Im interested in light and punchy not 200lbs each like my subs☺️ neo drivers!

Enter my new era/hobby of bass playing and i want more ooohmph. I have a single 10” Eden thats got me to here after starting to play 7months ago.

First off should i just buy a used 210 and let this project “fling” die down, or start searching for 10” drivers and build a killer 210 using killer drivers. Im not saying budget isnt an issue but spending $200 per driver isnt out of the question. It way just have me buyinf a new table saw for this project.

And of course a hefty head unit eventually so keep that in mind☺️

Looking forward to hearing ur comments

I'd recommend buying a used 210 to use while you're figuring out exactly what you want to do/build. It may be that after using the 210 for a while, you decide to go a different way -- that sort of thing happens. I wholeheartedly endorse building your own cabs if you enjoy doing it, though. Also, give the Bill Fitzmaurice and Greenboy fEARless designs a look while you're still considering your path.

Thanx man, great advice

Agree try before building. The OP might decide they prefer 12s or15s

For pointers/ideas, you should also look at the variety of 2x10’s, past and present, issued by Avatar. Their builds are pretty straightforward and basic, but they’ve filled a niche above the budget brands like Legion. Mojotone is similar, but guitar focused.

I'd go for something like a fEARless style build over a multiple 10 or 12 style build. Otherwise look at the Barefaced 12XN style cabs as a reference point - his FAQ is a good read. It's not hard to figure out what the HF driver and horn are either.

Also unless you're playing out on largish stages, then you really don't need as much SPL/Vd capacity as you might think - I certainly don't with SPL restrictions in many venues and a lot of level being fed through the PA in some of the venues I've played in recent years. It's easy to go for the typical AVS mo' is better (I know your username from there), but this isn't ULF. If a conventional 2x10/12 rig is what you're after, then it's not hard to sim it up using one of the better calculators. Every standard scale 4/5/6 string will have 2H as the predominate tonal signature determinant below A1, so going for haps of SPL and flat response to 40Hz or below may mean you're on a hiding to nothing.
