So to make a Bass from parts(From Guitarfetish,MusiciansFriend,and Rondomusic)I would need a Body.Neck,Pickups,Nut,Pot,Knobs,Jackplate,Neckplate,Strings,Tuners,Pickguard,and Bridge.Correct?
That's the way I'd do it, though you may decide to mix and match parts to get the look/feel/sound you want. There's a bunch of advice an inspiration in the Luthier's section of the TalkBass forum.
Back to the original list - plus several different kinds of screws (neck, pg, etc.), a neck plate or sockets, getting closer. Buying everything separately may end up being way more, certainly more work, but if you have to have that unique combo -as another poster put it - "the heart wants what it wants".
I have no idea what you're talking about… …oh wait, yes I do! One other little thing left out that's kinda important…strap pins. Oh, I forget…is this where, as a Supporting Member, I'm allowed to shamelessly plug stuff I have up for sale in the Classifieds?
check out this page here ... many of these basses are DIY parts basses ... http://www.3dentourage.com/425/gallery.htm
Talk about a slippery slope! It's like trying to claw your way out of the Rabbit Hole, but the Red Queen and the Caterpillar are pulling on your feet while the Mad Hatter has greased the sides of the hole!!
Every time I look at the Guitar Fetish web site I am intrigued with the idea that you can buy a complete bass kit in the $90-$120 price range. About the time I convince myself that I need to do this just for the fun of building a kit I find they are out of stock on whatever it is I want. Most recently that's a Telecaster (electric guitar, not a bass). However, today I note that P-bass kits are in stock in two different flavors. The cheaper one at $100 uses a Pauwlonia wood body. For $10 more you can get a P-bass kit that uses a poplar body. I have bought used basses at pawn shops for as little as $60 but a $100 kit appeals to me today like building a model airplane did 50 years ago. I think there is no point in buying a kit when you can buy a complete used bass cheaper; you gotta wanna actually build/assemble an axe, and that's the whole point.
I bought a six-string bass kit for $300 but am spending four times that in upgrades, stains/finishes, and parts. It's worth every dollar.
From the thread title, I thought your girlfriend had built you a bass! That would be one helluva girlfriend.
