Carvin also makes complete kits. Grizzly tools (the owner is a fine amateur guitarist) also has kits and other parts & accessories, and their kit has an extensive manual for every step along the way, including suggested finishes, and a complete setup guide.

Hey, how about building your own tube amp, your own speakers, etc, etc. Wind you own strings! Cast your own metal parts and 3D print the rest!
Now I know why Maker Lofts started. Angry spouses wanted all that crap and mess out of the house!
Step One- Admit you have a problem...

I made it very simple on myself, mainly because I wanted a very short scale bass, 22" so I converted an Epiphone Les Paul Express by just replacing the nut, bridge and drilling 4 string-through holes at the tail to accommodate the 30" Rotosound Tru-Bass black flat wound nylon coated strings. I kept the guitar pickups and used the exact same tuners in black, changed the volume and tone knobs to Fender black and rotated the pickup toggle switch to be logical front to back instead of up and down. I have to say, it came out really good, I even got the seal-of-approval from my bass teacher Denny Croy.
