Note my cardboard insta wedge has the back edge of cab sitting on the floor. It cannot collapse without being crushed as the returns would have to push the cabinet upwards for them to move sideways.

I have seen plywood hinge designs where it opens with the hinge at the back, to take stress off that joint.
Very nice and creative! I like how you made a scale model with cardboard and foam.

Yes. A better copy would eliminate the parts above the crossover and put the hinge there.

The one I was thinking of had the cab quite low to the floor and tilted well back. A couple of stylized L pieces with the hinge at the back and instead of straight edges to the front it was loopy curvey.
