DIY Custom Bass Club

Basically, it's a WD Music lightweight alder Jazz Bass body, with a Status Graphite "StingRay" neck (it fitted OK, but required the bridge to be fitted closer to the neck) and Nordstrand NJ4SE pickups 
. Bridge is, of course, a Badass II (very distinctive looking square of metal 
).
It's passive, but I use an outboard Sadowsky preamp with it, when I want a more modern, pseudo-Sadowsky sound.
The balance, feel and tone are fantastic, considering that it's a fairly random attempt at putting a "custom" bass together. Think I might have overdone the black look a bit, but it's a keeper, nonetheless
.

The body is Koa and the top is figured Koa. The neck (Bubinga with Ebony fingerboard) and body are both from Warmoth.
Fender32 - Very nice!!!! And definately not too much black, it looks great - that Status Graphite "StingRay" neck is a beautiful, beautiful thing ... I'm in lust! How did you get it (surely you didn't need to buy a new Status!)?
No, you don't need to buy a complete Status Bass to get the neck, they sell them as bolt-on accessories for Fender and MusicMan basses.

I bought it to put on my EBMM StingRay, but I didn't like the sound of it when it was done
, although it did look pretty damn amazing ....After I sold the StingRay, with it's original neck on, I had the graphite neck left over and decided to build a "Super J" around it. The results were better than I'd expected and so it gets a lot use now

Here's one that I finished about 3 weeks ago.
Its pretty retro and weighs in at just under 6.5lbs (semi hollow)

Used the fly guitar shape instead, which I prefer
Sapele Core, Maple cap on front and back, Alembic pickups (this is an old photo it now has 2 alembic Js) The neck is maple, stained and laquered black. Built the core in New Zealand, and moved back to UK. Finished it in UK. - Built because Ken parker won't make a lefty Fly; for that matter Sheldon Dingwall and Phil Kubicki wont make me a lefty either. Not much time in present comitments to make a Dingwall and Kubicki lefty but may one of these days.

Ash core, maple cap on top and rear, maple neck. Bartolini MMCs, Bartolini preamp. All pickups switch from series, parallel, single coil. Both on single single coils will buck hum (inner and outer coils). String though body like a tele, not that it makes any difference in tone. Neck dives though. But most versatile in the studio as a lap bass which is what is does best. Built and finished in NZ. Tried to get a PRS antique violin stain, turned out a bit yellow, ...hmmm... well it looks unique. Works for all kinds of music and was built to replace my Stingray. Put Stingray on sale on the bay once, no takers, so kept it anyway.
Sapele core, Black Line Spalted maple top and rear. Alembic AXY or Fatboys (I swap every few months - it now has a pair of fatboys), Alembic electronics with filter per pickup. Neutrik Locking socket. Carbon Graphite neck. Bolt on. ABM hardware. Hotdotz leds. My main bass. Balances and plays like a dream. Only thing is it looks very 80s, and I look like I'm moonlighting on a night off from an 80s band with it, wearing a tux playing jazz standards with my trio. Otherwise my #1. My stock lefty Alembic stays home.
